Chapter 927: Assistant
Chapter 927: Chapter 927: Assistant
Bai Xiao stared blankly at Dr. Xue, feeling as though thunder had struck her from a clear sky. It was a complete shock!
She, a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, was actually being assigned as an assistant to a master surgeon. Can you be any less reliable?
This wasn’t just tough—it was absurd for a rookie like her!
Sure, she had seen sutures performed countless times. But on a battlefield, would you still need a master surgeon for suturing?
Even a junior nurse could do it. She had personally done it a few times herself, gritting her teeth and stitching multiple wounds—better than just watching patients scream in agony.
But this situation was different now.
Dr. Xue, are you sure this is "teaching and nurturing students?" Isn’t this just setting them up for failure?
"Dr. Xue, I’m a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor..."
"It’s you. I’ve set my sights on you. Let’s go! Dr. Bai, surely you don’t think I’m unworthy of having someone as talented as you as my assistant, do you?" Dr. Xue’s old face crinkled into a smile reminiscent of a chrysanthemum.
Bai Xiao furrowed her brows. Could she say it? Could she dare?
"Of course not. I’m honored to be your assistant!"
She was suppressed by absolute authority, completely subdued.
"Dr. Bai, don’t frown. Didn’t you say that integrating Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine is the path forward? You, more than anyone, should lead by example. As a TCM doctor, you’ll only know how to achieve the perfect integration if you learn Western medicine too! This is a rare opportunity. Don’t tell me that you’re all talk but don’t truly believe in it deep down?"
Dr. Xue wanted nothing less than her total surrender—heart and soul.
Bai Xiao forced a sweet smile out of resignation. "Of course! I should lead by example!" Oh god, those were words she had hoped others would act upon—not herself.
Did she really need to integrate Chinese and Western medicine?
She could supposedly cure all diseases already!
"Alright then, let’s go!"
He took the lead and walked out.
Bai Xiao threw an awkward glance at Smith and Mike. "I’m going!"
The two of them made no effort to hide their "this is going to be entertaining" expressions.
Sure enough, as soon as Bai Xiao left, Smith and Mike began whispering to each other. Their translator spoke up, "Excuse me, Vice Principal Zhao, Smith and Mr. Mike would like to observe Dr. Xue’s suturing class. Would that be alright? This is also part of the evaluation criteria and counts toward the scoring standard."
Vice Principal Zhao immediately nodded enthusiastically. "Of course, they’re very welcome."
How could they not welcome them?
It was just a practical suturing class, not any kind of classified information.
Liu Hongmin had already opened the door. "This way, everyone. I’ll lead you there." Her demeanor was completely natural, without a trace of uneasiness, appearing calm and cordial.
The group promptly proceeded to the suturing classroom.
When Dr. Xue and Bai Xiao arrived at the classroom, everyone inside was left dumbfounded—completely stunned by Bai Xiao’s presence.
What was a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor doing in a Western medicine suturing clinic?
Visiting?
Even Qiang Xinran and Meng Han looked at Bai Xiao in utter disbelief.
Could Bai Xiao actually be proficient in both Chinese and Western medicine?
"Hello everyone, today’s class is on suturing techniques. I’m rarely here, but since I’m here today, I want to give everyone a hands-on learning opportunity. Many of you probably think that you’ll never need this skill in your entire career. Some think that if they just work as a doctor in a small clinic, all they’ll ever need to do is administer injections and IV drips—if they ever come across an appendectomy, they’d consider themselves lucky. Some of you might think, ’I’m studying pharmacy or nursing, this has nothing to do with suturing.’
You’re not wrong! Most of you might indeed go through life muddling along and merely making a living. But there are those among you who will encounter countless opportunities. Many major hospitals are in desperate need of surgeons specialized in suturing. In places like ours, what are such skilled doctors considered?
They’re national treasures! If you have exceptional suturing skills, I can say with absolute confidence: our Ruiyin hospital will take as many as we can get! Upon graduation, you won’t even have to worry about job assignments. We are eager for talent like you.
Now, some might argue: skill comes with practice, doesn’t it? I’ll lock myself in this training room starting today and just practice non-stop! I refuse to believe I can’t master it! Yes, that attitude is exactly right! What hospitals like ours need most is this kind of diligence. But talent is also crucial; hard work without aptitude means that even if you complete a million sutures, you might only be an ordinary doctor. You simply won’t be able to step onto the higher-level operating tables. Why?
Because talent matters. Equally important are the professional ethics of a doctor. Your attitude determines your achievements."
The room erupted in applause. noveldrama
Dr. Xue had delivered an inspiring speech right off the bat.
Many students were acutely aware that after five years of studies, they would face job placements. The difference in job assignments would be massive—deciding whether you would end up administering shots and IVs, or holding a scalpel in an operating room. A renowned doctor would earn universal respect, while a small-town physician might only warrant a passing glance.
Even at school reunions, such distinctions could determine whether you could hold your head high or not.
But now they understood that as long as they practiced, there was still hope.
The room, once brimming with discouragement, suddenly turned vibrant with determination. After all, who in their youth doesn’t hope to have a bright future? Especially young people—they all want to walk down a path paved with promise.
"Alright, enough talking. Seeing is believing. Many of our surgical interns spent nearly all their campus time in this training room. The hours they dedicated here would later turn into the hope for their patients’ recovery.
The most basic suturing techniques are just the beginning. To truly graduate and qualify, the final test will always be conducted on our lab mice.
However, today, I’m not looking to see if you can suture blood vessels perfectly. My first focus is to show you something. You can see my assistant here is Dr. Bai. I call her ’Doctor’ because she already holds a physician’s license.
Dr. Bai is a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor who has essentially zero surgical background.
What I’ll demonstrate today is how a zero-experience doctor, under my guidance, can complete a surgical suture. I hope everyone observes carefully, as such opportunities to learn in person are rare. I encourage all of you to study diligently and relentlessly.
Today’s session will serve as a demonstration."
Dr. Xue’s approachable demeanor immediately energized the students.
For them, Dr. Xue was a godlike figure, seemingly unreachable. To have him personally give them a demonstration was beyond their wildest dreams.
"Alright. Bring in our lab mice. Here, I want every student to recognize the sacrifices of these animals for medical experiments. Without their contributions, how could we bring so many patients back to health? How could we achieve so many successful surgeries?"
The class erupted into enthusiastic applause.
Bai Xiao clapped along.
Dr. Xue, you can fool these students all you want, but why drag me into this? As your assistant, what do you expect me to do?
If you want me to stitch a banana or a grapefruit, I might manage. But now you’re asking me to suture a live mouse.
Dr. Xue, why don’t you just bring in a living human and have me perform surgery on them directly?
What do you think?
