Chapter 49
Chapter 49:
I glanced at my phone repeatedly, willing it to light up with a call or text from Dominic saying he had arrived. The waiting gnawed at me, each second stretching unbearably. And then, as if the universe had decided to mock me, my phone rang.
I snatched it up without looking at the caller ID, assuming it was Dominic.
“Where are you?” I demanded, my voice sharp with frustration.
“It’s not Dominic,” an unfamiliar voice replied.
My stomach dropped, my grip on the phone tightening. “Who is this?” I asked, though I already had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
“Vanessa,” she said, her tone dripping with smugness.
Her name was like venom, her voice a reminder of every betrayal and scheme she’d orchestrated. My free hand curled into a fist at my side. “What do you want?” I spat, my voice cold and biting.
“I have the SD card from your phone,” she said casually, as though she were discussing the weather. “If you want it back, meet me in an hour. I’ll text you the address.”
The ground seemed to shift beneath me. My breath hitched as panic took root.
How did she know about the video?
“What—” I began, but she cut me off.
“Don’t keep me waiting,” she added with a wicked chuckle, and then the line went dead.
A text notification buzzed almost immediately. I stared at the screen, my mind racing. The message was short and to the point, containing nothing but an address.
My hands trembled as I lowered the phone. Vanessa’s involvement changed everything. That video had been my one weapon, my ace in the hole, and now it was in her hands. I had no idea how she had gotten it, but there was no time to dwell on the details.noveldrama
Faith’s groan of pain brought me back to the present. I squeezed her hand, my determination hardening. For now, she was my priority. I couldn’t let Vanessa derail me, not when Faith needed me the most.
Still, the text burned in the back of my mind, a haunting reminder that my fight wasn’t over—it was only just beginning.

As I stared at the message, Dominic came rushing in, his eyes scanning the room. “Where’s Faith?” he asked, his voice laced with worry.
“She’s in labor,” I said, tucking my phone into my pocket, and he hurried inside.
Dominic’s presence calmed Faith, and I took a moment to collect myself. Vanessa’s text burned in my mind. This wasn’t just about the card. It was about power, control, and the web of lies she and Eliza had spun.
As much as I hated it, I needed that card. It was the key to everything—the truth, Liam’s future, and exposing Eliza for the fraud she was.
But one thing was clear: I wasn’t going to let Vanessa win.
RAINA
I told myself I had one hour to see this through. Sixty minutes to handle Vanessa’s scheme, retrieve the SD card, and maybe—just maybe—regain a shred of control over this mess. Faith’s delivery had thrown a wrench into everything, and my nerves were already hanging by a thread. But spiraling wasn’t an option. Not now. Not with so much at stake.
The waiting room was a blur of muted colors and antiseptic smells. The hum of fluorescent lights overhead grated on my already frayed patience. Dominic, a jittering mess, paced back and forth like a caged animal. His hands moved incessantly through his hair as he mumbled to himself, almost as if rehearsing what he’d say when he finally saw Faith and the baby. His anxiety filled the air like static, and I clenched my fists to keep from snapping at him to sit down.
Ava, thankfully, was oblivious to the tension. She sat in a corner with a kind nurse who had coaxed her into playing with some hospital toys. Her soft giggles were the only thing keeping the moment from feeling completely unbearable.
