Chapter 714
"I remember he said he'd bring you home for Christmas dinner. He said you're his apprentice, which makes you family. It only makes sense to bring you home for the holidays. So, why didn't he take you? Is there anything you want me to tell him?"
Silas looked completely serious. He'd pretty much figured out what was going on. He wasn't usually the type to meddle in other people's business, but he knew how close his wife was to Mavis.
And honestly, he didn't want Calliope to be upset over something like this. He always wanted to see her happy. That's why he was trying to stand up for Mavis
now.
"No, really, it's fine. I'm not actually his family, and Christmas dinner is for family, right?" Mavis smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Myers, but you don't have to worry about me."
Silas nodded, seeing she didn't want to talk more about it, and dropped the subject.
Calliope jumped in, urging everyone to eat up, and quickly steered the conversation elsewhere.
The meal was cheerful and full of laughter, everyone relaxed and enjoying themselves.
Calliope was the happiest of all; her brothers were getting along with Silas, and she loved the feeling of having everyone together. She felt so lucky to have the people who loved her all around the same table.
Dinner moved slowly, but it was a happy kind of slow.
Since it was Christmas Eve, everyone's phones kept lighting up-sometimes with texts wishing Merry Christmas, sometimes with calls from friends and relatives.
Calliope's phone barely stopped buzzing. Friends, coworkers, even business partners were all calling to wish her happy holidays. Her group chats were blowing up too, with people tagging her left and right.
Calliope picked up her phone, typed a few quick replies, then sent out some generous digital gift cards to each group.
Even in the Jewell Group's company chat, she sent out a flurry of gift cards. The employees were
stunned-these were big giftsel.ne
People were tripping over
themselves to thank Calliope.
Valerian and the others were in the group chat too. With their phones constantly buzzing, they all glanced at the screen.
The three brothers exchanged looks, noticing Calliope's generosity. Each of their expressions turned a little odd.
"What's going on?" Lisette Jewell asked curiously at the table.
"Callie just sent out a bunch of gift~ cards in the company chat..." Horatio said, frowning. "Pretty big ones too. Everyone's saying they've never seen anything like this before."
Lisette pursed her lips. "There's really no need to be so extravagant."
Zelda rolled her eyes. "She sure knows how to spend. All that money, but instead of using it on her family, she gives it away to employees!"
Monty Jewell, sitting quietly, managed to snag one of the gift cards himself. When he saw the amount, he was floored.
"I just got $800..."
"With so many people in the company, and everyone getting a big gift card... how much did she spend?"
Monty couldn't believe how lavish Calliope was being. Sure, the money was technically hers, but he couldn't help feeling a little stabbed at the
thought of her blowing through what felt like their money.
Even if they didn't really like Calliope, the Jewell family just instinctively felt like
whatever she had should've belonged to them.noveldrama
