Chapter 1769
Chapter 1769:
Nola took a deep look at Errol, no longer hesitating. After seeing the extent of this laboratory, her ambitions had changed. Now, she just wanted a peaceful life. She wasn’t concerned about offending Errol or revealing that she wasn’t truly his granddaughter.
Before coming here, Nola had made arrangements to ensure her safety, regardless of the outcome. If Errol succeeded, she planned to disappear into obscurity, no longer vying for the leadership of the Happer family. Anyway, Errol couldn’t harm her.
With this thought, Nola looked earnestly at Harlee and said,
“Harlee, you know, the first time I met you, I really admired you and wanted to be friends.”
As Nola said this, her face showed a smile and a bit more sincerity.
However, Harlee responded with a strange look, unsure of how to react. She found it disgusting. The irony was thick—someone who professed such liking for her had secretly harbored deadly intentions.
Errol watched Harlee’s reactions closely, remaining vigilant. He knew she was far more formidable than he had anticipated. Therefore, he couldn’t afford any slip-ups in his plans.
Nola continued,
“Eventually, I did become your friend, but you always had Tonya closer to you. Though she accepted me as a friend for your sake, I knew I could never match the bond you two shared. I despise sharing someone’s affection, even if it’s just friendship. That’s why, when I learned about Serena’s origin, I decided to approach you under a different identity, hoping you might prefer me.”
Saying this, Nola smiled mockingly, unsure if she was mocking her own foolishness or something more profound.
“Over the years, I’ve really tried hard to make this happen.” She smirked slightly.

“Believe it or not, Harlee, my actions were all to catch your eye and make you see me in a new light. I hoped you’d think I was better than Tonya, but I’ve always been invisible to you.”
All of Nola’s schemes were not truly about harming Harlee but about capturing her attention—yet Nola never succeeded.
After all these years, apart from her desire to be esteemed by Harlee, Nola had always believed she was superior and had strived relentlessly to prove it. Yet, she had never succeeded.
Harlee had thoroughly investigated Nola’s life and actions, still puzzled by her motives considering their seemingly positive interactions before.
Today, Harlee finally understood. Nola had always been a snake in the grass, fueled by envy, and never appreciative of the kindness shown to her. Such a person did not deserve sincere treatment.
Harlee’s face remained composed, her gaze impenetrable as she scrutinized Nola. She asked deliberately,
“How did you know back then that Serena was the child the Rapper family was searching for?”
Following Nola’s confession, Harlee didn’t need more information. This question was merely a delay tactic. She was buying time for Rhys and the others to arrive.
Nola shot a glance at Errol. Noticing that he was still fixated on Harlee and not paying much attention to their conversation, her anxiety eased.
