Chapter 2822
"Lord George?" Grote and Wilbur exchanged glances, with Wilbur giving Grote a reassuring look. Suddenly, they heard Lord George's laughter from outside.
"Haha, Lord Grote, are you surprised by my visit?" As soon as the words were spoken, Lord George walked in with a smile on his face, bowing slightly as he said, "Greetings, Lord Grote."
Grote quickly stood up from his seat, gesturing politely with his hand. "Lord George, please."
After they both sat down, Grote said, "Lord George, I was just about to head to Walker Town, but you arrived first. If there's anything you need me to handle, just let me know. As long as it's within my power, I will see it done."
"Lord Grote, there's no need for such formality," George replied. "Your status is no longer what it was before. You're now the lord of Buck Town, equal to me, so there's no need for excessive courtesy or humility between us."
Grote exchanged another glance with Wilbur before continuing, "Could it be that you already know what happened in Buck Town?"
"Indeed," Lord George said, casting a glance at Wilbur with a smile. "Edmund and Conrad poisoned the wine, trying to set a trap to eliminate Wilbur. Unfortunately for Edmund, his skills were inferior, and he paid the price with his life. He brought this upon himself."
"And what about the other seven lords? How do they feel about this? Will they..." Grote began, but Lord George raised his right hand to stop him.
"Lord Grote, I came here on behalf of the eight City Lords of the Ruler's Alliance. First, to congratulate you on becoming the new Lord of Buck Town. Second, to invite you to join the alliance. I assume you have no objections to these two matters?"
"None at all. I've always wanted to join the Ruler's Alliance and wouldn't miss this opportunity."
After some conversation, Wilbur and the others learned the stance of the eight City Lords in the alliance. They were not angry about Edmund's death. After all, by resorting to poison, Edmund had already disqualified himself from being a true City Lord. Therefore, the alliance would not pursue the matter. Moreover, after joining the alliance, Lord George sought to befriend Grote, hoping they could become allies.
At Wilbur's suggestion, Grote agreed to Lord George's proposal. Grote understood well that the opportunity George presented was largely out of respect for Wilbur. After all, Wilbur had previously defeated Hadirt, a powerful figure. Neither Edmund nor George could match Hadirt's strength, not even close. Wilbur's ability to defeat Hadirt was proof of his formidable power.
In reality, by dealing with Hadirt, Wilbur had alleviated some pressure on George, who felt grateful to him. By allying with Grote, George was effectively allying with Wilbur. It was a chance George would not miss.noveldrama
After seeing George off, Grote breathed a sigh of relief and said, "At last, this matter is resolved. It seems the eight City Lords of the alliance are reasonable and didn't punish us for what happened."
