Gud Wife 52
"Nonsense! I've already signed everything. We don't need Maximus for this. Your things are already at my home, and we'll be heading to the vineyards this afternoon. There's someone there who's eager to
see you.
Mary's eyes widened in surprise, a smile slowly spreading across her face. "My grandfather?" she whispered, her heart swelling with hope.
"Indeed," Catherine confirmed. "He'll be visiting in the next few days, so you need to focus on getting better. He wants to see you at your best."
"Let's go, Mary," Peter said softly, gently helping her to a wheelchair. They made their way to the car, leaving Emma behind with Catherine.
Emma stood by the grandmother, silently praying that Maximus wouldn't arrive in time. She had seen what he was capable of, and with Peter now involved, things could get messy.
Moments later, Maximus stormed into the hospital, making his way to the reception.
"I'm here to authorize the release of my wife, Mary Palmer."
The nurse checked the records, then looked up at him. "I'm sorry, sir, but Mrs. Palmer was discharged about thirty minutes ago. She should have left by now.
"Who are you looking for, Maximus?" came a familiar voice from behind him,
Maximus turned to see his grandmother, Catherine, standing there, her gaze sharp as she assessed him.
"I'm looking for Mary," Maximus replied, his frustration evident.
Catherine looked him up and down before speaking, "Come with me," she said, linking her arm through his and guiding him toward the garden outside the hospital.
As they walked, Catherine spoke in a calm but firm tone. "Maximus, you know I love you and your brother as much as I loved your mother and father. But there are some things I simply cannot tolerate."
"Grandmother, Mary isn't a child. She doesn't need your protection," Maximus snapped, trying to pull his arm free.
Catherine's grip tightened. "Seeing the bruises on her body tells me otherwise. You have a problem with your anger, Maximus. I don't know why you hold such resentment toward Mary, but she never deserved. the treatment you've given her these past three years.
"Grandmother, you're talking nonsense," Maximus scoffed, trying to deflect her accusations.
"I don't know what kind of nonsense you've convinced yourself of, but Mary only made one mistake, and that was agreeing to the deal you proposed to her
Maximus froze, his blood running cold. "What deal?"
"You heard me. Did you really think she would never confess to me what you proposed that night she stayed at your house? In your bed? The night she gave herself to you?" Chapter 0067
Maximus's heart pounded in his chest. "I... I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, please, Maximus. You proposed to her because you knew I liked her, and you thought I wouldn't object. She was young, naive, and you took advantage of that. I expected this from Peter, but not from you."
"I didn't-"
"Sometimes, I think you were just drunk and stupid. But the more I think about it, the more I realize it was your ambition and that ridiculous rivalry with your brother that drove you to it.'noveldrama
"Ha, ha, ha, Grandma, don't make me laugh. Now you're the one worried," Maximus said mockingly. You and she made a deal, didn't you?"
"Not that I recall... but I suppose you can enlighten me
"Grandma, I overheard you on our wedding day. Don't deny it, or should I tell you exactly what I heard?" "Please, tell me what I did, because as far as I remember, you're the one who made a deal with her." They spoke as they walked. To an outsider, it might have seemed like a casual conversation between grandmother and grandson, but only they knew the tension that grip represented. Finally, they found a bench under a tree, and Catherine gestured to it.
"Come sit with me. I'm not as young as I look."
They sat down, and she still didn't let go of his arm. After knowing him for so long, she knew that was the only way to control him.
