My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

Gud Wife 85

[Present Day]

After their conversation in the garden, Maximus and Mary walked toward the mansion, where Catherine was already standing on the balcony, waving at them.

"Maximus! I'm glad you finally decided to visit your wife!" Catherine said cheerfully.

"Yes, Grandma. In fact, we've been talking. I told her I be staying here to help with her recovery."

"Oh! Wonderful news! Just wonderfull No wonder today seems brighter than usual."

"Grandma," Mary interrupted, "I asked Maximus to speak with you first. He can't just come here and make decisions like that without consulting you."

"My dear, I think it's a very kind gesture, so I have no reason to object," Catherine replied warmly.

Out front, Leopold spotted Peter's sports car pulling up. His stomach dropped-he could sense a storm brewing. Knowing full well the rivalry between the two brothers, and Peter's growing interest in Mary, he feared the mansion was about to become a battleground.

"Leopold! Old man, who's visiting us?" Peter called as he stepped out of his car.

"Mr. Peter... your brother Maximus is here," Leopold admitted nervously.

"What?! Why is he here?" Peter growled.

"I don't know, sir. He arrived early and has been talking to Mrs. Mary in the garden."

Peter stormed into the mansion, cursing himself for staying in Galea. Spending the night with that woman

had cost him precious time, and now Maximus was gaining an advantage.

"Grandma! Grandma! What is-" Peter started as he searched the hallway leading to the rooms.

"Peter, my boy! I'm so glad you're here! Today, we'll have a family breakfast-my two grandsons and my granddaughter-in-law," Catherine said with a wide smile.

Peter sighed heavily and forced himself to stay calm when he saw Maximus striding toward him, Mary at his side. Maximus's smug expression only fueled his rage. But Mary appeared calm, suggesting their earlier conversation hadn't ended in an argument. Catherine's good mood confirmed it.

"Brother," Maximus greeted him, his tone icy.

"Maximus," Peter replied with equal frostiness, glaring at him.

"Mary, my love! How are you, darling?" Peter asked, his tone softening immediately as he turned to her. "I'm well, Peter! Every day I'm feeling better. Of course, I still can't use this hand," she said, motioning to her bandaged hand. "But I'm making progress.'

Maximus's jaw tightened as he listened to Peter's affectionate words. The thought of his brother getting closer to Mary only strengthened his resolve-he had to stay in the mansion to care for her. If he left her under Peter's care, he might lose her forever.

The four of them moved to the dining room, where, for the first time, they shared a peaceful breakfast. But if their private thoughts were audible, it would have been a very different scene.

[Catherine's Thoughts]

Finally, my family is together. I know I'm not doing the right thing, but I need to fix this before it's too late. Peter is young; he'll find a beautiful woman to start a blessed family with. But Maximus? If it's not with Mary, I don't know who else could tolerate his horrible temper. That harlot of his? Never. It took everything to remove her family from ours. I won't let him bring them back because of his foolish lust. No, never. [Peter's Thoughts]

Damn you, Maximus! A thousand times damn you! How dare you come to Grandma's house? You're a bastard. Go back to Alexia's arms where you belong. Mary is mine and always will be. I know I never told her how I truly feel, but once she divorces you, I'll make my move. She deserves happiness, and I'll be the one to give it to her!

[Maximus's The

Mary, I know I've hurt you. I promise to make up for every single day I made you suffer. I've made the most important decision of my life-I want you with me. You calm my soul; you are my peace. I want to build a life with you. I want children with you. I want to wake up to your face every day.

I'll never let Peter have you. Never. If I can't have you, neither will he. I'd sooner destroy him than give him that satisfaction.

[Mary's Thoughts]

Grandpa, soon we'll be together. I've saved enough money for us to travel the world. It's not much, but it'll be enough for a quiet life. It's been almost five years since I last saw you. No matter what it takes, staying with Maximus isn't an option anymore. That's decided. I'll agree to whatever he wants to gain my

freedom.

The meal continued in silence, though the tension in the air was palpable. Everyone was lost in their thoughts, and Catherine could feel it, though she said nothing. She was determined to steer this marriage back on track, even if it meant taking extreme measures. A baby had to come from these two, no matter

what. She wouldn't allow Alexia to have any claim to the family, because if a child were born from her,

Catherine wouldn't have the heart to deny them-but she'd never accept the mother.

As they left the dining room, Peter pulled Mary aside. How are you really feeling? Do you need anything?"

"No, Peter, I'm fine. Thank you," Mary replied, her tone polite but distant.

Maximus watched the exchange from a distance, his fists clenching. He didn't miss the way Peter looked at her, or how easily he approached her. This rivalry wasn't just about business anymore-it was personal. He had no intention of letting Peter win.
