Chapter 34
Chapter 34:.
As the thought formed, Melissa, whose eyes were shining brightly, looked at Justin. “I may have to trouble you with something, Justin, can you help me look up some information about the Miss Smith we just met?”
An unsuspecting Simon asked, “What’s up?”
A smile formed on Melissa’s face. “If I’m not mistaken, your niece is probably the one who saved your life!”
“…”
Hearing this, Justin said to Lawrence, who was standing behind him, “Bring a copy of Miss Smith’s information to Uncle Simon and Aunt Melissa.”
After Lawrence brought the investigation report, the two parties cross-referenced the data. An elated Melissa exclaimed, “It’s really her!”.
Simon’s eyes turned red. “Nora… What a beautiful name. Give her a call and let me take a look at her…”
If it wasn’t for the fact that he had just had surgery and couldn’t get out of bed, he would have run over there immediately.
Unfortunately, when Lawrence went to the VIP room next door to look for Nora, she had already left after giving Irene a check-up and making sure she was okay.
He did, however, manage to get Henry’s number.
Justin’s help was no longer needed after that, so he went back to the hotel to spend some time with his son.
On the top floor of the Finest Hotel.
Pete was in the den and talking to Cherry on the phone.
Cherry was as sweet as honey when she talked. “You’re so smart, Pete! If Mom does that, she can clear your name!”
Praised by his sister, Pete, who had never openly shown his emotions, blushed. “You’re cool, too.”
Cherry smiled. In a sweet, tender voice, she told him, “You got out while you were carrying Little Pink yesterday, Pete. Remember to bring him back to me next time, okay?”
Pete, who was holding some books, paused. “Little Pink?”
“Aha! You know, the pink princess dress.”
His sister even named her clothes. What an adorable little princess she was.
As soon as the thought formed, I hear Cherry say adorably, “Wait a second, Pete. I have to tell my teammate something, okay?”.
Pete nodded. “Okay.”noveldrama
Then, I hear Cherry suddenly start up, “Do you really know how to play support? Have you used your ultimate ability correctly even once? And, open world combat! Do you have a feud with the wild monsters or something? Why are you just staring at that patch of grass over there! Do you even know what support is…? Besides…
Pete was dumbfounded. “…” That really came out of nowhere.
After belittling her teammate for two whole minutes, Cherry finally turned off the game’s voice chat and said, “Don’t forget Little Pink, okay? It’s my favorite dress.”
“…”
After hanging up, Pete immediately put down his books, got up and went to the bedroom to get the dress.
He remembered taking it off the day before and throwing it on the couch. Why had it disappeared?
As he was looking for it, the door opened and Justin walked in. The tall figure stopped in front of him. “What are you looking for, Pete?”
Pete replied nonchalantly, “The princess dress.”
Justin stiffened as he took off his jacket. With mixed feelings, he replied, “Oh. Don’t bother anymore. I may have thrown it away.”
Threw it away?
Pete thought of his sister’s verbal might and was startled, “Why did you throw it away without asking me?”
Justin frowned. A determined look crossed his deep eyes and he said solemnly, “You’re a boy. Don’t ever wear dresses again.”
This was his absolute limit!
Pete’s face tightened and he said angrily, “You’re a despot and a dictator! No wonder Mom hates you.”
Justin handed his jacket to the nanny, walked over to his son and squatted gracefully.
He always looked at Pete at his eye level when he spoke to him. In this way, the boy felt respected. Seeing his son looking at him with his big round eyes, he suddenly asked, “Did Miss Smith say she hates me?”.
Pete replied, “…Yes!”.
Justin let out a chuckle. Even the mole in the corner of his eye gave off a bit of charisma as he said, “Women sure are creatures who say one thing but mean another.”
If she really disliked him, why did she approach her son again and again?
Pete was perplexed.
He took a silent step back. “Have you seen a psychiatrist, Dad?”
“…”
Justin stood up and said, “I have a dinner date tonight with a family friend. Let’s go together.”
Pete didn’t answer, but Chester, who was sprawled out on the couch and playing as if no one had noticed his presence, said, “Okay!”
Meanwhile, Nora had just received a call from her father. Her eyes widened. “My uncle? Really?”
Henry scoffed, “They even know your mother’s name and what she looks like. How can it be fake? They’ve arranged to come today at three o’clock in the afternoon. Go back to greet them.”
Nora frowned after hanging up.
To tell the truth, her mother was a rather distant concept for her. For as long as she could remember, the only impression she had of her mother were the last words she said to her. It was a voice recording. The person had a soft voice, and had told her to go unnoticed….
However, her family had never had any contact with her mother’s family. Even her aunt overseas was only her mother’s half-sister.
The sudden mention of her uncle today made her very curious: What kind of person was this mysterious mother of hers exactly?
She took a cab back to the Smiths’ house.
As soon as she got in, she heard Wendy ask, “Has Nora’s mother ever mentioned her family, Henry?”
Henry replied dismissively, “I already asked her about them. She told me that her family lives in the mountains and is very poor. She escaped from there, so she never had contact with them after that.”
Hearing that, Wendy hesitated for a moment before asking, “What, Nora’s uncle will bother us after he comes, then?”.
Henry was also worried about the same thing. “They just mentioned especially that her uncle was sick and hospitalized, so her aunt will come alone. She won’t be borrowing money for medical expenses right off the bat, will she?”
Wendy curved her lip. “We’ll lend it to her if she does?”
Henry immediately scoffed, “He’s Nora’s uncle-what’s he got to do with the Smiths? If anyone should be lending them money, it’s her.”
On the other side of the door, Nora, who was listening to their conversation, looked down. Her clenched fists suddenly unclenched and she let out a laugh. Only then did she step forward and enter the house.
Angela was leaning on Henry’s shoulder and acting like a baby. The family of three looked happy and blissful.
Seeing Nora, Angela curved her lip and said smugly, “Tsk, no wonder you never mentioned anything about your mother’s family. So, it’s because they’re an embarrassment! But Nora, you shouldn’t forget your roots. They are your mother’s family; surely you should still acknowledge those penniless relatives of yours.”
With her eyes downcast and as if she hadn’t heard her, Nora walked over to the one-seater sofa and took a seat nonchalantly. He ignored her completely.
Despite this, Angela spoke with a feeling of superiority and said, “My uncle bought me a purse some time ago. I wonder if your uncle will buy you something, Nora. Oh, I forgot. He’s currently sick and hospitalized, so he probably can’t even pay for his own medical expenses. Mom, Dad, let’s show a little compassion later and give him a few hundred dollars.”
After saying that, he frowned again and called, “Mrs. Lane, get the disinfectant and air purifiers ready. I hear the country people smell bad.”
At that moment, Mrs. Lane shouted, “They’re here!”
