Being so close, their breaths intertwining, Yang Su looked at the man’s face, and felt a surge of bitterness and outrage welling up from her chest, making her eyes red with unshed tears. "Does loving someone need a reason?"

"Of course!" Chang Linsheng’s cool fingers touched her fair cheek, his eyes more profound and inscrutable than ever before!

"Because I’m stupid! Is that enough?"

Tears welled up in Yang Su’s eyes as she spoke. Chang Linsheng’s eyes quavered when he saw her tear up and move to push him away; he quickly caught her wrist and pressed her against the car!

But he didn’t. All she could feel was the faint scent of tobacco wafting around her nose; his kiss never landed.

"How can it not concern me? Otherwise why would you bring me here? Why would you tell me your apartment is nearby? Why would you ask me if I’ve thought it through?"

Chang Linsheng turned to look at her and after a long silence a hint of a smile pulled at his thin lips. "Are you saying that I am scaring you, that I am trying to force you to give up on me in this way? Are all you young girls from the Chinese Department so imaginative? Yang Su, I’m not as noble as you think! The only reason I didn’t touch you is out of respect for Yinchu, as you are his wife’s friend. If it were any other girl I wasn’t acquainted with, I wouldn’t hesitate. Who’d refuse a free offering?"

"Then, just treat me like any other girl you don’t know! I dare it, do you?"

Yang Su’s fingers tightened, her words holding a sense of authority. She was gambling, betting that Chang Linsheng had feelings for her, betting that he was lying to her!
