Chapter 185 Take You Home

I rubbed my ears, thinking I was hallucinating. The next second, I heard Eric's

laughter.

"I'm over here."

Following the sound, I saw him leaning against the doorway. The lights were off in that area, so it took me a moment to spot him.

Eric stepped out of the darkness, his figure blocking the only light source in the

room.

I looked up at him, feeling a bit dazed. The glow from behind him outlined his figure, giving him an almost silver halo. Because of the backlight, I couldn't see his expression clearly. All I could hear was his deep, steady voice. "I came here to take you home."

A warm feeling bloomed inside me.

Maybe it was because I had been staring at my computer screen for too long, but my eyes felt a little sore and almost teared up.

"How did you even get in here?" I asked, confused. Didn't Brown Group have strict security access?

Eric smiled smugly. "I had your dad secretly register my face into the system. From now on, if you get too busy and forget to come home, I'll come pick you up."

His words made me suddenly remember that he and Dad had exchanged contact information.

I had assumed it was just formality, but it seemed they were actually in touch quite often. But... the way he mentioned my father so casually left me feeling strangely flustered.

I quickly pushed away the odd feeling and smiled, explaining why I stayed back for work. "I don't have much experience with these types of business presentations, so it's taking me longer than usual."

That part was true. Most of my work had been design-related, and business- heavy projects like this were out of my comfort zone. If this were a design task, I would've been the first to leave work.

Hearing this, Eric pulled over a chair, sat down beside me, and took my laptop without hesitation. Before I could say a word, he was already adjusting the slides, looking completely focused.

I watched him silently, my gaze lingering on his sharp side profile without meaning to. It wasn't until he cleared his throat that I snapped out of it and quickly lowered my head to hide my flustered state.

A faint, almost imperceptible smirk appeared on his lips as he turned the laptop

screen back toward me.

"I've fixed the formatting and set up the framework for you. You just need to fill in the details tomorrow."

I was touched, but before I could thank him, he raised his hand to stop me. "Don't thank me. If you really want to show gratitude, stop working and come home with me to rest."

His words completely destroyed my plan of pulling an all-nighter.

I nodded, packed up my things, and left the office with him. I deliberately left my laptop behind.

The next morning, when I arrived at work and opened my laptop, my suspicions

were confirmed—someone had tampered with it.

After I invested in Zachary's gaming software, I asked him to develop a simple security program for me. The software automatically logged usage time if the laptop was unlocked and used without entering a password on a specific program within one minute. It would also activate the webcam to capture

footage of whoever was using the device.

Yesterday, I had intentionally left my laptop behind to see if Harvey would take the bait. Of course, I had saved my entire presentation onto a flash drive before leaving.

Imagining Harvey waiting all night for me to leave, only to find nothing useful on my computer made me smirk.noveldrama

Heather, noticing my expression, immediately sent me a message. "What are you laughing at? Don't tell me the Demon finally drove you insane?"

"The Demon" was the nickname they had given Harvey behind his back. Since she was comfortable enough to share that nickname with me, it meant they were starting to accept me.

I replied with a grinning emoji, then texted. "It's nothing much. I just saw something hilarious. It was too funny."
