“I’ve been stuck in this house far too long, and it’s like a prison. What do you say we go together?”

She said this to give them both an easy way out.

It was a clear olive branch, an attempt to smooth things over.

Melany, despite her past deception, had come to realize her wrongs. She believed that it was time for Colton to forgive her.

But Colton remained as cold as stone.

“I don’t have time for that.”

His eyes briefly skimmed over the invitation. The CEO of Aröme Tower visiting Ontdale was indeed a rare opportunity, one that many would jump at.

But the thought of it stirred only disgust for Melany.

“And you’re pregnant now. Traveling and all that… it’s not exactly the best idea.”

“Colton…”

“Don’t test my patience, Melany.”

His blunt dismissal caused a crack in Melany’s composed expression, but she quickly concealed it, like an actress hiding behind a mask. She took a slow, steady breath, clenching her fists beneath the table.

“I know you don’t feel the same anymore, but you wouldn’t take it out on the baby, would you?”

Her hand instinctively went to her belly, as though it were some sort of bargaining chip.

Once the child was born, even if the truth came to light that the child wasn’t his, Hoyt would shoulder the blame.

Regaining her composure, Melany spoke, her voice softening.

“I’ve been cooped up at home for days, and no one seems to care. My mood could affect the baby’s health.”

Colton knew that she was probably miserable, confined to her home, but frankly, he didn’t care.

Yet, hearing her mention the baby caused a slight crease in his brow.

“I’ll take you, but don’t stir up any trouble.”

The words that came out of Colton’s mouth startled him. He never thought he’d say something like that to the woman he once cherished so deeply.

In his mind, Melany had always been innocent, gentle.

But the day those files and photos came to light, everything he thought he knew crumbled to dust.

Melany let out a soft sigh of relief.

“Of course.”

She could tell that though Colton had agreed to the banquet, his mind was far away, still tangled in thought.

“By the way, you don’t need to worry about the gift.” She seized the moment to offer her assistance.noveldrama
