Chapter 350: Hidden plans and truths...

Lyla

"My love, more dangerous than letting the Dark One win?" I countered. "More dangerous than watching our people become his slaves?"

"I hate to disrupt," Circe interjected. "This is what she was born for, Ramsey. You can’t protect her from her destiny."

I returned to the table, placing my hands flat on its surface. "Here’s what we’re going to do. We will divide into three groups. The first group, led by the High Priestess and the other priestesses, creates a distraction – they’ll go after the weaker Ferals and create a front assault that draws the Ferals’ attention. The second group, led by Circe, would circle around to cut off their retreat routes and take care of any surprises."

"The third group?" Darren asked.

"I, Ramsey, my elite warriors, and the three hundred and fifty changed Ferals would look for the Dark One. If we can successfully kill or capture him, that would solve our problem by half."

"How do you intend to channel the lunar energy then? It’s daytime, and won’t you be too busy going after the Dark One to do that?" Vega asked.

"Day, night... the moon is like a candle that doesn’t go out. I can still draw from its power and’ll be at the Centre of everything. I won’t look for the Dark One per se; he’ll come to me. I’ll draw his attention, at the same time, channelling the lunar energy to help you fight better."

"Absolutely not," Ramsey said immediately. "That’s risky, Lyla. You’re not putting yourself in the middle of the battlefield with less than five hundred warriors to protect you. It’ll be suicide."

"I’m not asking for permission," I replied calmly. "I’m telling you what’s going to happen."

The room fell silent again. I could feel the tension building between Ramsey and me, but this wasn’t the time for a power struggle.

"May I, Moonsinger?" Darren, who has been quiet, spoke up suddenly.

"Sure," I nodded.

"What will happen if we wait until nightfall?"

"The key is to take them by surprise, Darren," Ramsey snapped before I had a chance to reply. "If we go when they’re expecting us, how will that be a surprise?"

"I heard you the first time, Ramsey... I’m just wondering if we could shift the timing until later when the energy from the moon would be strongest and the Moonsinger wouldn’t have to over-exert herself for us."

Ramsey was about to say something else, but paused. He hadn’t been expecting Darren’s care towards me. Sighing, he dropped into the chair and ran his hand through his hair.

"I’m so sorry, man, I’m a little bit disoriented, and I appreciate you looking out for my mate."

Darren nodded. "Maybe you need to talk things out and reach a final agreement before we move out. It seems..." Darren paused, his eyes darting between us "You have unresolved issues. We’ll leave you guys to it."

I nodded, grateful for their understanding as they exited the room. I walked up to Ramsey and stood beside him when we were alone. His head was still bowed. Gently, I rubbed at his back.

"There’s nothing either of us can do, Ramsey," I began quietly. This must happen, and we cannot keep putting it off."

He nodded and hugged my waist, burying his face in my belly. I stiffened, wondering if he could feel the baby.

"You drive me crazy, Lyla," he murmured after a few seconds, then looked up. "Everything about you... I’m more worried for your safety than anyone else’s. I wish I could stop you, take this burden from you, but..." he rose to his feet and jerked my face towards him.

"I will protect you, Lyla, from everything, from hurt, from every pain, that is how much I love you. Is there anything you wish to tell me? Something that escaped your memory that you were supposed to tell me?"

My heart began to race.

"About what?" I asked, hoping my voice was firm.

"I don’t know, maybe, the prophecy, some information you failed to tell me."

I relaxed visibly and shrugged out of his hold, then crossed to the other side of the room, towards the window. "Lenny told me everything."

I heard him walk to where I was and stand next to me. "What exactly did he tell you?"

"That you’ve been feeding information to the Dark One, that all the fights we’ve had in these past few months, our positions were already betrayed even before it began. Is it true?"

There was a long pause, and then he nodded. "Yes, and there’s a good reason for it, too."

"Intentionally putting your people in harm’s way is not a good reason to do anything, Ramsey and what is worse is when no one knows what you’re doing. That’s selfish. Warriors give their life, youth, and all to protecting our land and world; the least you owe them is..."

"That’s the only way to draw him in, Lyla," he interjected. "I did not just make that decision on my own. Mother Liora encouraged it. ’To kill a Dark One, you must take up status with it and kill the source, ’ he quoted. "Or something along those lines. I am creating an illusion for the Dark One... none of this is real..."

I turned to him. "What are you talking about?"

He slid his hands inside the pockets of his trousers and sighed. "The Dark One will not win us, I know as much. And we wouldn’t need to go out to meet them today. He’ll come for us. Lenny told him we found the Moonstone and that you’re using it to amplify your power."

"I still don’t understand," I stared at him. "How does that connect to anything we’re doing?"

He sighed and turned to face me. "Do you trust me, Lyla?"

I hesitated for a second and then nodded. "To an extent, at least."

"Good!" he nodded and kissed my cheek. "Then you’ll see. A few minutes from now, the alarm will sound. If it does, it means he took our bait..."

"What bait?"

There was a knock on the door, and Caius entered. He was dressed up for battle. "Alpha, there have been sightings. I’m heading towards the point. See you at rendezvous." noveldrama

Ramsey nodded. "I’ll wait for the bell before we start to move."

Caius nodded and left the room without looking at me. As I was about to ask Ramsey what was happening, I heard the alarm bell.

"It’s time," Ramsey nodded to me. "Just do everything as you’ve planned out already. Give me a minute to get ready. I’ll meet up with you afterwards."

Before I could protest, he ran out of the room, leaving me confused. When the door opened again, it was Circe, Nanny, Terra and the priestesses.

"It’s time, Lyla. Change into this," Nanny instructed. Before I had time to protest, I was outside, dressed in heavy battle armour, being led. There was no time to ask what was happening or if they knew what Ramsey wanted to do.

When we arrived in front of the pack house, I saw that the warriors were already lined up in three groups. There was sand by the riverbank. They were so much.

I spotted my Elite group alongside the repented Ferals. Ramsey showed up a few seconds later, with Lenny by his side. They were dressed in the same battle attire as Caius, as were all the Alpha Lycans and Werewolves.

When did they have time to plan that?

Ramsey stood before them and raised his hand to call for attention.

Outside the protective walls of the White Mountain, there is an army of Ferals and Trinaxes and the Dark One heralding it all. This will not be the first time we’re fighting the Dark One, but this will be the last. Just so you know, we will always win."

There was loud hooting and cheers before Circe and Nanny turned to each other, held hands for a few seconds and muttered...

"We’re connected."

"Hold on!" I tugged at Nanny, pulling her back. "Do you know if something strange would happen? A while ago, Ramsey was talking about how I should trust him and how we would win."

"Yes, we will," Nanny nodded. "Xander thinks Jemima is working for him. Yesterday, we sneaked in weak potions for her, and she fed them to the Ferals. It’ll make our work easier."

I stared at her, wondering if I was dreaming. "No one mentioned it to me. You had me thinking, Jemima was working for Xander."

"Turns out she’s not. She was planted there by Ramsey himself. Everything that happened at the Moon Temple was a decoy. We’ll take out the Ferals as quickly as we can, and I hope you can tackle the Dark One while we’re at it."

"Is there anything I don’t know yet? What other surprises have been hidden from me, and how can we trust, Jemima? What if this is just a coy?"

"Well, I promised to step down as High Priestess if this goes well and she plays her part. I don’t want to be bound by it anyway. So... yeah..."

"When did all this happen? I only fell asleep one night!"

"Ramsey has had the plan going for a long time. He’s not very open with things like this, and I know because I confronted Jemima herself, and she told me Ramsey promised to make her the High Priestess."

"But he didn’t talk to you first?"

"He did with Mother Liora, and they all agreed. I am just a fill-in until Jemima proves she can be loyal to the White Moon Throne and the Lycan Leader like other High Priestesses before her, seeing she doesn’t bear the silver mark."

"So, this is her test?" I asked, still wondering how to react to the news.

"Yes," Nanny nodded. "C’mon, it’s go time."
