The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Lucas stared at Evelyn for a moment, his expression thoughtful. Quickly sorting out his thoughts, he figured out the current situation and coldly turned to Jason and Blake.

She felt that there was something odd in Lucas' gaze.

"Why is it you two?" Jason asked, surprised.

"Mason had something come up at the last minute," came Tiffany's explanation, "and asked us to come instead. What happened?"

She was rather displeased at the presence of Evelyn. They had been bumping into each other far too often lately. It was especially so now that Evelyn had managed to join their social circle.

This left Jason with a headache as he had not expected the situation to turn out like this.

Mason was too unreliable!

Lucas stepped in with long strides. With a frown, he asked, "What's going on here, Mr. Harrison?"noveldrama

Furrowing his brows, Jason was stumped. How should he explain this? If he had said it was because of Evelyn, that would raise unnecessary suspicions.

A flicker of hidden emotions flashed in Blake's eyes. Pulling Jessica into an embrace, he casually answered, "It was a misunderstanding. We had a tiny dispute, that's all."

It was evident that he did not plan to elaborate further.

Still, Lucas had the same expression, not caring to press further. "That's good to hear."

Evelyn was not surprised by his attitude. He had cared about many things, but not her.

Sensing Lucas' attitude, Blake shot Evelyn a half-hearted smile. For Evelyn to have been ignored in front of Tiffany was downright humiliating.

Waving to Tiffany, Jessica mentioned, "Let me bring Blake to have his wound treated. I'll see you around, Tiffany."

Tiffany nodded in agreement.

Blake did not look back and walked away with Jessica, comforting her along the way.

As Evelyn glanced at their retreating figures, she told Jessica, "Since the matter's been resolved, let's go."

At the same time, Tiffany produced a tissue paper from her purse, handing it to Jason. "Here, wipe your mouth. It's bleeding."

"It's okay," came Jason's answer as he took the tissue paper.

Taking a look at his watch, Lucas suggested, "Let's talk outside."

They agreed and headed out with him.

Evelyn said little and followed behind, behaving very much like a stranger.

When they arrived at the car, Lucas finally glanced at Evelyn.

"I'll drop Tiffany off at the office," he said. Then, after a pause, he asked, "Where are you heading?"

Evelyn knew exactly what he meant, so she answered calmly. "I'll take a cab."

Lucas had already decided to send Tiffany back, but because Evelyn was also there, he had no choice but to pose the question. She knew that it was his way of prompting her to refuse so that he wouldn't be in an awkward situation.

Jason shifted. Although he felt uneasy about Evelyn leaving alone, it might seem worse for him to send her home.

Evelyn did not care much and pulled out her phone to call a cab.

At that moment, Lucas' phone rang.

Seeing it was from Maria, he answered, "Is there anything?"

"Are you done yet? Pick Evelyn up and bring her home. I came over today, only to find out from Maggie that you two have hardly returned. How ridiculous it is to leave the house empty like that!"

She would not have known that neither one of them wanted to head home if she hadn't visited.

Lucas fiddled with his lighter and responded casually, "I've been swamped with work."

"Swamped? That doesn't mean you can ignore your responsibilities. Stop changing the topic-and pick Evelyn up..."

"I'm heading off," Evelyn mentioned, seeing that her ride was here. She gave a brief nod and turned to leave.

Maria overheard Evelyn's voice and quickly added, "Since you guys are together now, bring her home safely."

Lucas' expression remained unchanged. Looking at Evelyn, he said, "Grandma wants you to head home."

With a slight frown, Evelyn glanced at his phone and saw that he was on the line with Maria. She thought of not going, but Tiffany was around.

If she insisted on leaving alone, wouldn't that be akin to telling Maria that Lucas wanted to send Tiffany home?

Not to mention, Maria continuously insisted that Lucas bring Evelyn home.

She had already hung up in the midst of Evelyn's hesitation.

Evelyn had no choice but to look at Lucas. Given how much he valued Tiffany, would he really leave her all by herself?

At that moment, Tiffany still had the same expression. She did not show any signs that she was dissatisfied.

Instead, she turned to Lucas, telling him, "I'll head back to the office with Jason. Since Grandma's health is more important, you should visit her."

Her tone was composed, akin to how a married couple would talk to each other.

She did not mind giving Evelyn this opportunity. Her calmness reflected the confidence that came along with Lucas' favoritism.

Evelyn closed her eyes, amused. When did she need another woman to step aside for her to claim what was hers as the legal wife?

She did not want to be involved in the drama, so she decided to go on her own.

Lucas was already looking at her when she looked up, about to speak. He turned her down with an indifferent glance, claiming, "You've already called for a ride, so just go with it. There's no need to fuss. Is that okay with you?"

He made his decision without any hesitation.

Evelyn knew he could have brought her to Maria's place after dropping Tiffany off. Yet, he didn't want her to ruin the atmosphere between him and Tiffany as the third wheel.

"Sure." She had already expected it.

Jason looked at Evelyn with a complicated expression. Even he felt suffocated— what more Evelyn?

No matter how much he observed, she did not look like she was about to cause a scene, which was out of the ordinary. Anyone in this situation would have been so overwhelmed that it was normal for them to argue or cause a scene.

Evelyn, however, was a tad bit too calm.

Not caring about their arrangements, she did not spare the group another glance

as she boarded her cab, which had already arrived, and left.

Jason turned to Lucas as Evelyn boarded the cab.

Lucas had turned his gaze away, clearly indifferent to whatever she decided. In a chivalrous manner, he stepped aside, opening the door for Tiffany.

At that moment, Jason understood why Evelyn acted the way she did.

One would simply run out of the will to go on when negative emotions were not reinforced with positive feedback.
