Jenny went quiet. Then, she ended the call. Sasha turned around, staring at Shane.

"What?" he asked.

"I don't care who you date down the line, but keep me out of it. Otherwise, it could cause problems for me," Sasha said curtly.

"Got it."

With work piling up, neither of them could afford to waste time. After dropping Shane off at his office, Sasha headed back to Huxham Corporation.

She was waiting for the elevator when she spotted Sherry descending in the adjacent one. Sherry noticed Sasha as well but averted her gaze after a brief glance.

Sasha knew exactly who she was. Instead of heading up when the elevator doors opened, she walked over to Sherry.

Sherry had seen this coming. "Clearly, it was because I landed this job because my skills stood out."

Her background was nothing special. When she'd been dating Gavin, his circle had scoffed at her and called her a gold-digger riding on his coattails.

Gavin never bothered to stick up for her. As a result, everyone close to him treated her with disdain.

She'd put up with it quietly for the sake of love, but those days were over. Now, she wanted nothing to do with that part of her past.

Sasha frowned, studying Sherry. "Weren't you working under Gavin before?"

with contempt, criticizing how Sherry, who came from nothing, had latched onto Gavin's side like an ambitious social climber determined to marry into wealth. They mocked her as someone who'd pushed her way into his world and stubbornly refused to let go.

But Gavin was part of Steven's inner circle. And since Sasha couldn't stand Steven, she'd never taken anything his friends said seriously.

"Why the sudden resignation?" Sasha asked.

Most importantly, others accused Sherry of having questionable morals claiming she was the type who didn't mind being the other woman. There was also her murky history with Zane.

Now, Sasha was concerned Sherry might undermine Annalise and Zane's relationship. Protecting Annalise's happiness felt like a duty.

Sherry stayed calm. "I quit because I didn't want to work for Gavin anymore."

"But weren't you his girlfriend? He just let you walk away like that?"

"Yeah, we broke up," Sherry replied. She'd braced herself for ridicule but instead saw only curiosity in Sasha's expression. The burden she'd been carrying suddenly felt like something she could share.

"Got time? Let's talk somewhere."

"Sure!" Sasha would never turn down a chance to hear some juicy gossip.

Sasha and Sherry met up at a hotel.

The latter tossed her things aside and sank into an armchair. "You've heard about Gavin's female friend, haven't you?"

Sasha hesitated, then nodded. "The rumors, yes."
