True Love Deserves a Second Chance

Chapter 405 Joey in a Coma

Paxon noticed something was wrong with Joey and immediately ran over with his short legs.

He squatted beside Joey, holding a tissue to wipe her tears.

As he wiped, his eyes reddened, and he said, "Mom, you still have me."

That one sentence made Joey feel even worse.

Paxon's words showed that he understood Sebastian's situation.

He was even prepared for the possibility that Sebastian might not come back and that

he would take care of her.

This made Joey's heart ache.

Paxon was just a two-year-old child.

Joey held Paxon in her arms, gently stroking his head, her voice choked, "You're right, I still have you. We'll wait for your dad together."

Theodore stood to the side, secretly wiping away a tear, and bent down to help Joey up from the ground.

His voice was somewhat low, "Joey, Sebastian, he..."

He was about to say that Sebastian had already met with an accident and that they should prepare for his funeral.

But before he could finish, Joey interrupted him.

She looked at Theodore with tear-filled eyes, "Theodore, Sebastian promised me he would come back. I believe him. No matter how long it takes, I will wait for him."

Seeing that she still refused to believe, Theodore's heart ached even more.

He gently patted Joey's head and comforted her, "I'll wait with you."

Although Theodore knew that this hope was very slim, almost impossible.

But Joey hoped to keep going, and he couldn't extinguish it.

The three of them returned to the dining table to eat. Joey forced herself to eat a slice of pizza.

By the last bite, she almost threw up.

Theodore patted her back and said softly, "Joey, if you don't want to eat, don't force yourself. I'll make you something else when we get back."

"No need, this is quite good. Sebastian likes this flavor."

After saying that, she picked up another slice of pizza and started eating.

Joey deliberately put on a smile.

But her smile looked worse than crying.

After eating, the three of them went home.

The people who had gathered there in the morning had already dispersed.

Only the Winters family members were there.

Seeing Joey and the others return, Elise immediately came over, looking at Joey with concern.

"Joey, how are you?"

Joey, holding the sleeping Paxon, smiled slightly, "Paxon did great in class today. He must be tired. I'll take him upstairs to sleep."

Her voice was as usual, and there was no sign of pain on her face, as if nothing had happened.

Seeing Joey like this, everyone else had tears in their eyes.

Elise's voice choked, "I'll go up with you."

Joey's seemingly fine state made her very worried.

She was afraid Joey would break down when she was alone.

Elise took Paxon from Joey's arms and went upstairs with her.

Joey placed Paxon on the small bed, took off his shoes, and covered him with a blanket.

She kissed his chubby little face.

Her tears accidentally fell on Paxon's face.

Joey acted as if she didn't see it and smiled at Elise, "Mrs. Guise, could you watch

Paxon for me? I'm going to take a shower."

After saying that, she walked straight into the bathroom.

But as soon as the bathroom door closed, she rushed to the toilet.

Joey half-knelt on the ground, vomiting everything in her stomach.

She vomited until she was dizzy and in a mess.

She hadn't felt this bad even during her pregnancy.

She didn't know how long had passed when she heard Elise's anxious voice.

"Joey, why are you throwing up? Are you feeling unwell? Should I call a doctor for you?"

Joey slowly lifted her head.

Only then did she realize that her face was already covered in tears.

She forced herself to stand up from the ground.

Joey's voice was weak, "It's nothing. I just ate something bad. Don't worry."

Joey maintained this facade of calm for over ten days.

She went to work on time every day, and played with Paxon on time, as if nothing had happened.

Until she fell into a high fever and lost consciousness, revealing all her heartache.

While unconscious, she kept calling Sebastian's name.

Every time Joey called out, the family felt a pang of pain.

Paxon held her hand, tears streaming down his face.

His voice choked, "Mom, please wake up. I don't want to be a child without parents.

Please don't leave me, okay?"

His words made everyone else tear up.

Theodore was so anxious that he had blisters on his lips.

He picked up Paxon, gently stroking his head, and softly comforted him, "Paxon, don't

cry. Your mom will wake up. She won't leave us."

Tears streamed down Paxon's face, and his long eyelashes were still wet with tears. "Uncle, my mom misses my dad. Please, can you bring my dad back?"

Theodore felt a sharp pain in his throat.

He knew Joey's worry all too well.

She had been with Sebastian for so many years, and she loved him so much. They had gone through so many ups and downs together, and they were finally about to be together.

But Sebastian never came back.

This was a blow that no one could bear.noveldrama

Facing the slim chance of Sebastian's survival and Joey's unconscious state, Theodore didn't know how to comfort Paxon.

Theodore held Paxon tightly in his arms, his voice hoarse, "Paxon, you are your mom's hope now. As long as you're here, your mom won't leave. So you have to be strong, okay?"

Paxon nodded through his tears, "I know. My dad told me to protect my mom and wait for him to come back. Uncle, can he really come back?"

Facing Paxon's hopeful eyes, Theodore felt like a knife was being twisted in his heart.

He wanted to tell Paxon the truth but didn't want to cruelly shatter his hope.

He could only softly reassure him, "Yes, as long as we don't give up, he will definitely come back."

The doctor gave Joey a thorough examination and finally diagnosed, "This is a psychological issue. The patient is stuck in a vicious cycle. If you want her to wake up soon, you need to remove the source of her distress."

Hearing this diagnosis, Theodore wasn't too surprised.

Joey already had depression, and after enduring blow after blow, it was inevitable that she would end up like this.

But Joey's illness was caused by Sebastian. Only if Sebastian came back could she get better.

Theodore's face was serious, "Would psychological intervention help her recover faster?"

"It would, and having the person she cares about most talk to her every day would also

help."

Hearing this, Paxon immediately raised his little hand, "I'm the person my mom cares about most. I'll talk to her."

With the help of a psychologist, Paxon talked to Joey a lot.

From being completely unresponsive at first, Joey eventually had tears rolling down

her cheeks.

An excited Paxon held her head and said, "Mom, did you hear me? Please wake up. I really want to talk to you."
