Ultimate Evolution I Became the Master of the World

Chapter 89 The Disappearing Second Person

The village night was super quiet.

I mean, there weren't many folks around, and since it was late, the old-timers had probably hit the hay early. So, the whole place felt like it was in another world at night.

The silence was kinda heavy, even a bit creepy.

But at the village entrance, one house stood out. Its door was wide open, and there was light inside.

In the middle of the main hall, there was a coffin. In front of it, two almost burnt-out white candles flickered, casting spooky shadows on the walls, making the place feel even more eerie.

On the table in front of the coffin was a portrait of a young man. It wasn't very clear at night, just an outline really.

It gave off a seriously creepy vibe.

"Where did everyone go?" a group of people approached from a distance and stopped in front of the house.

Through the door, they could see everything inside clearly.

"This village has always been weird. A ghost roams around at night like it owns the place, and yet the villagers act like it's no big deal," Leonidas said seriously. "During the day, it felt way too normal here."

"Yeah, the normalcy here is pretty unsettling," Tom agreed.

It was this fake normalcy that made them doubt if there was really a ghost here.

But they had just confirmed there was definitely a ghost in this village.

And a village with a ghost? That was not normal at all.

Normally, people would have packed up and left if they knew there was a real ghost around. They wouldn't stick around.

"Let's not worry about the whole village right now. Focus on the problem in front of us. If the ghost is really in this house, it'll be easier to deal with. Solve this, and all our problems are solved," James said.

"Don't get too hopeful. Someone's already died, and it was a Ghost Handler. The next one could be you or me," Jaxon said grimly.

Leonidas said, "Yeah, but we can't just stand by either. Since we've decided, let's go check it out."

Everyone was tense, their eyes glued to the coffin in the hall.

Michael followed quietly at the back. It was better to stay low-key right now.noveldrama

Soon, they cautiously entered the house.

Whether it was their imagination or not, as soon as they stepped in, they felt the temperature drop, an icy chill wrapping around them, making them feel all sorts of uncomfortable.

"This coffin might be a bit weird. Let's not touch it for now to avoid any surprises. Let's check the other rooms first. If we can't find anything, we'll come back here. In such a small place, even if we run into the ghost, we can stick together before anything bad happens. If something goes down, just shout, and everyone will come to help," Leonidas said in a low voice.

They weren't sure if the ghost was in the house. If it was, they had to figure out how to deal with it.

"Yeah, but let's not spread out too much. We need to stay within a certain distance," James nodded.

Michael stared at the coffin for a bit before looking away.

'Leonidas is right. This coffin being here is definitely weird. So, not touching it is the safest bet. At least for now, everyone is safe. We can check it out after making sure the place is clear,' Michael thought.

With that in mind, Michael started searching the house after the others spread out. He could stay low-key, but he couldn't be useless.

They had to work together.

The house had three floors, each with three or four rooms. The layout wasn't complicated, and it wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to check each floor.

Just as they were about to leave the hall, the portrait in front of the coffin changed a bit.

Half of the guy's face in the portrait was now covered in darkness, looking like it had rotted away, with a creepy smile at the corner of his mouth. At the same time, the candlelight dimmed fast, like something was snuffing out the flames, making them flicker and die.

The light in the hall started to fade, and the darkness outside crept in.

But none of them noticed this change.

"Find anything?" Tom asked Michael in a low voice as he came out of a room.

Michael had demon's eyes on the back of his head and forehead, so he had no blind spots.

"Nope, not even a villager. If I'm right, there shouldn't be anyone in this house. Where did the people from the day go? Leonidas was right; this whole village is off," Michael said.

He came out of a room too, confirming there was nothing unusual.

Their over-caution seemed to be freaking them out.

"Let's meet downstairs and get ready to check out the coffin. If there's no one in the house, the coffin might not have a body but a ghost," Michael suggested.

But just as Michael turned to go downstairs, a weak, sickly cough suddenly came from the room behind him.

Instantly, sweat broke out on Michael's back.

He had just checked that room, and there was no ghost inside. How did the cough appear?

"Michael!" Tom turned sharply, his face looking terrifying, his body showing abnormal signs, like his joints were twisting and breaking.

He was about to use the ghost's power.

"Wait." Michael turned and rushed over, kicking open the half-closed door.

The dim room didn't mess with his vision. The demon's eyes on Michael's forehead saw everything in the room clearly, like it was covered in a red glow.

But the room was empty, no ghost, no cough.

"Gone." Michael was shocked.

"Damn it." Tom was both shocked and pissed.

Just now, the ghost was right beside them.

'If it was really a ghost, it couldn't have disappeared in a moment.' Michael felt his whole body tense.

Unless the ghost had a Ghost Realm. Only then could the ghost appear anywhere in the village.

Suddenly, in the dark hallway, the sound of footsteps going downstairs echoed.

"In the hallway." Tom's face turned terrifying as he rushed over.

At this moment, they couldn't back down. They had to charge forward when necessary.

Fear would only get them killed faster.

Tom was a step ahead of Michael, rushing into the hallway.

The house had only three floors, and the stairs weren't long.

In just a few seconds, Tom caught up with the footsteps going downstairs.

"That's not true." Tom's voice echoed in the stairwell, filled with shock.

They didn't run into a ghost but Leonidas and the others.

When they were checking downstairs, they suddenly heard strange footsteps going

upstairs and rushed to check, only to meet Tom.

The scene in the village replayed.

Leonidas was the first to react and shouted, "Don't panic, it's us."

"This situation happened again. We were all drawn by the footsteps," Michael also arrived, his face changing as he noticed something, "Wait, where's Jaxon?"

Everyone looked around, feeling a chill.

Jaxon was gone.

"Back to the hall," Leonidas roared and immediately turned to rush downstairs.

Everyone realized how serious this was. After all, Kieran had died mysteriously before.

But now, the candlelight in the hall had long been extinguished, plunging the surroundings into stifling darkness.

The portrait on the altar was completely shrouded in darkness, with an eerie change, now looking a lot like Jaxon.
