Chapter 1303
Isla scratched her head, a little embarrassed. She didn't think too far ahead when she saw someone trying to drag the little rug rat.
Seeing that she returned to her brainless self again, Lexx couldn't help constantly rolling his eyes at her.
Okay, at least she was smart enough to know she had been duped! But who in the world would deal with things so single-mindedly as she would? Didn't she know to speak tactfully even if she wouldn't shirk the responsibility? How could she have blatantly admitted she did it on purpose?! She'd only have people screwing her much worse!
Who would've thought she learned it from TV, seeing how well she handled Yvette's kidnapping. What a coincidence!
So over and done with talking to her, Lexx squatted down to Yvette's eye level and explained. "Yvette, your daddy has something to deal with. Stay with me for now, and I'll bring you to him later; how's that sound?"
Hearing that, Yvette nodded, then glanced over at Isla before looking back at him.
"Do you know our code word? Daddy said, other than mommy and him, and also Mr. Butler, anyone who comes to pick me up will have to say the code word!"
Tilting her head, Yvette hesitated a while before continuing, "Even if I know you!"
Instantly, the two adults were amused, and Isla knocked her head with the softest force. "You sure are full of mischief, you little rug rat! Do you think you're some spy? A code word, seriously?"
Quite on guard! But this little one seemed very trusting of her, seeing how she kept calling her 'Aunt Isla' earlier and now holding her hand. Inexplicably, Isla felt a little joyous.
Meanwhile, Yvette shot her a nasty look as she pouted.
"Don't hit my head, Aunt Isla; I'll get stupid. Mommy said... use your tongue and not your hands! So don't hit me; hitting bad!"
"Are you teaching me a lesson, rug rat?"
Seeing that she acted like an adult, Isla intuitively raised her hand but stopped mid-air this time. "Forget it; I'm not going to argue with you!"
Thereafter, Yvette said the code word, "Ring around the Rosie..."
Smiling, Lexx ruffled her bangs and continued, "Where is my Bree!"
Hearing that, Yvette smiled.
"Yay, let's go, Mr. Lopez! Mr. Lopez, I want fries; can we eat while we wait for Daddy?"
"Please don't tell him I asked for it, okay?"
Meanwhile, Isla stared at her, mouth agape; she had wanted to answer, a pocket full of posies'! "That's it? That's the code word? Anyone who heard it would've remembered and will still be able to kidnap you!"
Yvette shot a disdainful glance at her this time, her entire face screaming, "you're such a dummy."
While Isla was still in bewilderment, Lexx laughed out loud. "It'll change every day, obviously. No way they'd keep it the same, would they?"
Then, the little one poked her cheek adorably, making a silly face. "Dum-dum; you're such a dummy, Aunt Isla... Mr. Lopez is smarter!" "You little rug rat! You..."
Isla widened her eyes in irritation as she extended her hand but remembered something mid-way and put it down again, turning her head away, snorting coldly.
"Hmph..."
"Haha!"
Amused, Lexx burst into laughter, finding the two ladies bickering interesting.
He didn't get why, but something seemed to have tugged on his heartstrings. Just then, Yvette tugged on Isla's hand, acting cutesy.
"Don't be angry, Aunt Isla. I'm sorry. I won't be so disrespectful anymore! Aunt Isla?"
"Hmph! I won't buy you fries anymore. No fries for you!"
"No! I'm really sorry, Aunt Isla. I already apologized! Buy it for me, please!"
"No way; forget it!"
"Please, oh, please. I want to eat fires... Wah... I'm sorry, Aunt Isla. I want to eat..."
Seeing Yvette burst into tears, Isla took a step back, wide-eyed with shock. Weren't they bickering a second ago?
"Why... why are you crying?"
Hearing that, Lexx looked over his shoulder at the two, saying, "Do you think she'd know you're messing with her? She took you seriously!" With that, he squatted and held Yvette's hand.
"It's okay, Yvette, your Aunt Isla is only messing with you! I'll buy you fries if she won't! We'll get your favorite fries, okay? Don't cry anymore!" The little one nodded at that, then sniffled before nodding again, holding Lexx's hand instead this time, leaving Isla to follow behind them speechlessly.
After walking for some time, Isla poked Yvette with her handbag. "Hey, hey..."
"Hmph!"
Yvette turned her head around, her turn to ignore Isla this time. To Lexx's bafflement, he was exceedingly happy as he watched the two talking turns sulking.
After entering a fast-food restaurant, Lexx ordered a few things but only got a bag of fries, a small one at that. "You can only have this much, Yvette, and no more. That way, I can bring you here again, okay?"
Yvette nodded at that, smiling merrily.
With that, he squeezed a packet of ketchup for her before uncovering the lids of the other food and drinks. "Here, have a bit of something. Bear with it this time, alright? For, you know... I'll treat you alone next time if you want to eat again."
Lexx shot a glance over at the little one kicking her feet. Isla got what he was trying to say as well, nodding. He probably worried Yvette would ask for more if he ordered a lot.
"Sure, I'm cool with this!"
Suddenly, she thought he was quite attentive.
The two sat on either side of the
child at the small table, not the least bit awkward at all. Yvette clearly favored Ker bag of fries over
everything else, eating it merrily meticulously. Isla then grabbed a
drumette and waved it fawningly at
her.
"Do you want one?"
Yvette blinked her big round eyes, looking at it for a second before looking away. "Hmph!"
Following that, she returned to her fries, dipping one in the ketchup and eating it. But very quickly, she finished her entire bag. Seeing so, Isla offered again.
"Really, no? I'm going to eat it then. This is the last one..."
Then she waved it at her again, repeating, "Do you want one?"
"Yes!" This time, Yvette reached for it directly.
Isla brought it to her fawningly. "Call me Aunt Isla, and I'll give it to you!"
Clearly, with good food baiting her, she couldn't care less about anything else, calling Isla sweetly, "Aunt Isla..."
Isla handed it to her with a smile, but Lexx took it first. When their eyes met, he explained, "Lauren and Willy don't want her to eat a lot of deep-fried stuff. I'm removing the batter!"
He had already gracefully peeled the batter as he spoke, leaving only a little bit for Yvette to satisfy her craving.
And the little one seemed to have already gotten used to it, reaching for the drumette. "Thank you, Mr. Lopez..."
With that, she began munching.
With a faint smile, Isla handed a few pieces of tissues to him, having an even better impression of him, thinking he was rather attentive.
Then, she fished a bag of wet tissue from her handbag and handed one to Lexx before taking another to wipe Yvette's hands. Though her action was a little clumsy, she was evidently gentle.
Suddenly, Lexx was deeply touched by the homely scene as he looked at her from the other side of the table. What a blissful scene it'd be if they were his wife and daughter!
Shocked by the sudden thought, his face blanched as he regained his senses. Just then, his phone rang, and he shot right up.
"I have to take this."
Seeing it was still early when they exited the fastfood restaurant, they took Yvette to a square nearby the rendezvous point to play for a while. The square was very lively at night with a musical fountain, people coming and going, some even dancing.
After buying her two luminous toys, the little one ran madly around, holding them with Isla by her side. Lexx followed behind, but his phone rang again after he took a few steps, and with that, he went to deal with it.noveldrama
Leading Yvette back, Isla looked up to see him on the phone again, his tall figure still stalwart even in the night. After signaling 'hush' to Yvette, she brought her forward, but just as they got close, she heard Lexx seemingly instructing something.
"Alright! I know; do you need to ask me this kind of stuff? I'll settle with them tomorrow. Forget about reasoning with him. Give whatever money is due and take what should; not a penny less! Call the supplier after transferring the money Terminate all future collaboration and demand compensation!"
With that, he ended the call.
The grave expression on his face instantly disappeared when he turned around, replaced with a gentle smile. "You're done playing? Don't run too far, alright, Yvette? Your daddy will come and pick you up soon!"
"Okay..."
Yvette seemed to have gotten tired as she lay in Isla's arms. On the other hand, Islas heart pounded wildly as she looked at him.
In the past, she only had eyes for sons of the rich and powerful, never even considering a personal assistant like Lexx!
But for the very first time that
evening, Isla thought he was super
net
cool from the moment he stood in front of her to how efficiently he
dealt with a matter and talked gently
to Yvette. He had a unique masculine charm, as though she'd feel very safe with him around.
Soon, Willy arrived, and he was a little surprised when he saw the three together.
"Daddy..."
"Yvette, you're a big girl now; how can you ask someone to carry you?" Willy pulled on the jacket Yvette was wearing after he took her from Isla.
"She's a little sleepy, probably tired from all the excitement!"
"Thanks for looking after her, guys! I'll take her home now. Isla..." He looked over at Lexx, who knew what he meant.
"I'll take good care of her! I'll brief you in detail in the office tomorrow!"
With that, Willy left after receiving his affirmation.
Lauren and Willy returned home nearly the same time. By then, the little one had fallen deep asleep. While Willy went to wash up, Lauren accidentally
saw his text with Lexx and couldn't help appalling.
What was going on? Was someone trying to harm Yvette?
"Willy, have you made enemies with someone?"
Willy stumped for a split second when he saw her holding his phone as he came out of the bathroom. Sh*t, he couldn't hide it from her anymore!
What do you think?
