The next day was so quiet that I wondered if they were going to hold the final contest or not. It was supposed to be held the next day. But I didn’t see any instructions or people running around to arrange for it. It seemed like a boring day at the resort, and I didn’t even find the contestants. At lunch when I went down to the dining area, I only found Damon eating. He was reading a newspaper.
“Hil” I greeted him, sitting opposite to him at the table.
He jerked his head back. “Laura? How are you?”
“I’m good. How about you?”
“Great!” he smiled, tilting his head.noveldrama
I lowered my voice and said, “Thanks for helping me yesterday.”
His forehead creased with a frown. “What help? I’m seeing you after a long time.”
Oh, so he wanted to keep it under the wraps. Well, that made it easier. “Ah, just like that,” I played along with him. I glanced around to see if someone was overhearing us. Apart from a few servers, there wasn’t anyone. But I knew that wolves had a keen sense of hearing, so I kept quiet. Last night, I had asked him to send his car to transport Summer to the edge of the Shadowfang territory where my father’s men were waiting.
“Tomorrow is the last day of the trials,” I said excitedly.
“Yes,” he nodded. “And thanks to Summer, you can make a comeback.”
Anger bubbled inside me at the way he mentioned Summer, but I forced a smile: “Yeah! She was here only as a proxy.”
“I hope you win,” he replied and got up.
“Have they announced about tomorrow’s contest?” Lasked.
“How would I know?” he chuckled. “Anyway, I have something to do. See you later.” Saying that, he hurried away, leaving his half–finished breakfast on
the table.
I was left alone in the dining area. Since I didn’t know what else to do, I helped myself to a nice meal. As I sat down, I couldn’t help smiling. Summer was gone, and I was going to make sure that I would win. When I came here, I thought an alliance with any Alpha would be great. But a marriage with Alpha Bradley? Well, that was something I never dreamt of. I would be rich beyond imagination, and help my father to regain his empire. But for that, I knew that we had to keep Summer alive. Or not. “Bitch.” I chuckled as I had my breakfast.
They had announced that the last trial would be announced at the venue. So the next day, I couldn’t help feeling excited as I walked toward the final trial location. I had barely slept the entire night, my mind still reeling from what would happen now. I could taste the victory.
My father hadn’t failed me, and I was certain he’d taken Summer away. I was sure she’d be in the town by the time I woke up. And here I was, still in the midst of the pack’s trials, expecting to finally claim what was mine.
The moment I arrived I sensed tension in the air, There was a quiet murmur amongst the contestants. They looked at me, and then started talking amongst themselves. Feeling neglected, I pursed my lips and came to stand near the podium. Bitches! I was going to give them a horrible time once l became Bradley’s Luna. Having said that, I wondered where the son of a bitch was. Today was his first day of doom.
And where was his fucking sister, Tammy? Why wasn’t she here? She was an organizer. I scanned the crowd for any sign of her. However, my heart nearly stopped when I saw her.
Summer.
She was standing there, looking calm, her eyes bright. She looked… fine. Too fine. I had thought she was supposed to be gone. How could she be here dif

Summer was here, then who did my father get?
A chill ran down my spine and panic rose as I saw Bradley standing beside her, his eyes seeing her intensely, his posture protective. His eyes flicked toward me with that unsettling dominance he carried. My stomach twisted when he narrowed them at me, as if he knew my secrets.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
I was caught off guard. The entire situation was quickly spiraling out of my control. How did Summer get here? Why wasn’t she kidnapped? My father had failed me, or was there something more sinister awaiting me? So I did the only thing that came to my mind, which was my last resort. There was no time
for me to waste.
I walked up to Summer, my mouth dry, my fists clenching at my sides. “What are you doing here?” I hissed her.
Summer narrowed her eyes back at me. “Oh, hi Laura. Are you surprised to see me here?”
“You shouldn’t have come here,” I almost barked. “This place is only for the contestants?”
“Right, this place is only for the contestants, and not for the kidnappers!”
I paled at her words. “Wh–what do you mean?”
Bradley placed his hand behind her back. “Laura, it’s you who is not supposed to be here,” he said, his voice cold. “You’ve been disqualified.”
I froze. “What? What do you
mean?”
Bradley’s cold eyes met mine. “The werewolf council went over the conditions of the treaty. You breached it aura.”
“What nonsense!” I barked.
“Did you take permission from the council before you let Summer replace you for the trials?”
My mouth dropped. “B–but it was mutually d–decided.”
Bradley cocked his eyebrow. “No, it was never mutually agreed upon. In fact, you pushed Summer to be your proxy. Guess what? You couldn’t use Summer as your proxy. There’s nowhere in the treaty that says a candidate can use a proxy. You’ve violated the terms. And so you’re not eligible for the trials anymore.”
plan. This was supposed to be The words hit me like a slap. I couldn’t breathe for a moment. Disqualified? For what? How could this be? I had the p my moment, my victory, not something stolen by Summer or anyone else. I couldn’t even compete? This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen.
“No.” I shook my head violently. “I have every right to compete and be here.”
Bradley’s gaze remained cold. “No, Laura. You don’t. You didn’t even follow the proper channels. You can’t just use someone else in your place.”
His words echoed in my head. No. No, no, no. This can’t be happening. The bastard was too smart. Not only did he destroy my father’s empire, very cleverly he was waiting for this moment to throw me out of the contest. It was like he was on a revenge path. And I couldn’t even shout at him for all the things he did to my family. Because if I did, it would become evident that my father was into illegal businesses.
My body trembled with shock and anger.
I was supposed to be the one to claim this title, not Summer. But why was she here? How did she avoid my father’s plan? What went wrong?
I felt the anger rising in me, and before I knew it, I screamed at him. “You don’t get to tell me what I can and can’t do, Bradley! You don’t get to take this
from me!”
“Then you don’t know me, Laura. I will send a formal complaint to the council about your breach of the treaty.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My mind was racing, struggling to find any foothold in the situation. Bradley had fucked us all in a way that there
was no comeback.

I tried one last tactic, hoping that my connection to the human–werewolf council would give me the leverage I needed. “You’re going to regret this, Bradley. The human council will back me up. This whole thing will blow up in your face.”
Bradley didn’t flinch. “Not when they’ll find out that you violated the agreement by using a proxy. If anything, the council will have no choice but to support the decision.”
My chest constricted. But I wasn’t going to give up that easily.
“Fine,” I spat, trying to mask my panic. “You think you can get away with this? I’ll make sure the council hears about it. I’ll make sure you regret this. You’ll see.”
Bradley’s expression was unreadable. “No, Laura. Summer is staying in the contest. As a goodwill gesture and to honor the treaty, I will allow a human, which is Summer, to continue in the trials. However, you are leaving!”
His words felt like a slap across my face. My whole world had just come crashing down. I was out, and Summer was in?
What do you think?
