Chapter 251
Eileen let go of the doorframe she had been gripping.
She straightened her posture and smoothed her clothing.
With a calm demeanor, she walked around Egbert and the other onlookers, silently entering the pink room across the hallway. She smiled and commented, "This room is quite cozy, and it looks like my luggage has been taken care of. Alright, I'll stay here."
Egbert turned his head away, unable to suppress a smirk that danced in his eyes.
Standing behind, Hobson was dumbstruck. He couldn't help but exclaim, "Retreat as a means of advance. Classic Egbert."
Egbert shot Hobson a glance, which silenced him immediately.
After everyone had a look around the room, they all dispersed.
As they were leaving, Eileen didn't forget to remind Aurora, "Don't forget to bring me my house warming gift."
Aurora clenched her teeth and stomped downstairs.
Eileen then turned her gaze to Sylvia. But to her surprise, Sylvia was also looking at her, with the same mournful and devastated expression. Eileen sighed. She felt helpless and told Sylvia, "Looking at me like that won't help. What can I do?"
Sylvia pouted, complaining, "I'm about to cry from all this drama!"
Eileen comforted her, "Don't worry, I'll get a divorce in two weeks."
Egbert turned his head to look at Eileen, his eyes slightly narrowed, and asked with a deep voice, "What did you just say?"
Sensing a brewing storm, Sylvia quickly retreated and scampered away.
Seeing Sylvia leave in such a rush, Eileen didn't even have time to call out to her. She felt a foreboding sensation. She glanced at Egbert, noticing his face had darkened considerably.
Eileen scratched her face, defensively retorting, "What, what's wrong? Isn't it true that the show only lasts for two weeks...?"
After finishing her sentence, Eileen didn't dare to look at Egbert's face. She cautiously tiptoed along the wall, keeping as far away from Egbert as possible, and carefully slipped past him.
Once she reached the stairs, she quickly descended without looking back!
Once Eileen was downstairs, she dashed into the kitchen, hiding behind the counter and sneaking glances towards the staircase.
After a while, she saw Egbert come down. His expression was calm, as if he was no longer angry.
Seeing this, Eileen finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She checked the time, it was almost noon. Eileen decided to cook something delicious to appease Egbert.
So, she opened the refrigerator, but found it empty.
Eileen turned to Egbert and asked, "Mr. Reed, looks like we have to cook for ourselves. Should we go grocery shopping?"
Egbert, sitting on the couch and scrolling through his phone, didn't respond.
Without getting response, Eileen poked her head out of the window to look at the person outside, and gently called out, "Mr. Reed?"
Egbert continued to scroll through his phone, not uttering a word.
Eileen pursed her lips, scratching her neck before slowly coming out to sit on the couch as well.
With a bit of distance between them, Eileen looked at the remote control on the coffee table and tentatively asked, "Mr. Reed, do you want to watch TV?"
Egbert didn't lift his head, remaining silent.
Eileen was at a loss on how to deal with the situation.
Was her comment about "divorce" too harsh? But this was just a show, none of it was real. Egbert was here to work too. Wasn't it better for them to keep things professional?
Eileen reached for the remote control, scrolling through the channels. When she saw Egbert's face on a movie channel, she exclaimed in surprise, "Hey, Mr. Reed, it's your movie..." But before she could finish her sentence, Aurora's face suddenly appeared on the screen.noveldrama
Eileen shut her mouth.
The movie was The Alley! Eileen quickly changed the channel.
Egbert then lifted his gaze, calmly saying, "Go back to the one we were just watching."
Eileen remained silent.
Egbert leaned over and took the remote control from her, switching back to the previous channel. On the screen was a scene of Egbert's character and Aurora's character embracing...
Taking a deep breath, Eileen reached out to grab the remote control. But Egbert leaned back and moved his hand away, preventing her from getting
it.
Eileen frowned, stood up, and leaned over to snatch it. But Egbert's arm moved agilely, always keeping the remote out of her reach.
Finally, Eileen lost her patience. The sound of Aurora's character sweet-talking Egbert's character from the TV was grating on her nerves. Eileen knelt on the couch, one hand on Egbert's shoulder and the other reaching for the remote, shouting, "Give it to me!"
Egbert hid the remote behind him, then reached out with both hands to hold Eileen's.
"Egbert, stop being childish!" As Eileen spoke, she broke free from his grip, then leaned into Egbert's arms, reaching around his back. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Followed by the door being pushed open, Calvert and Hobson walked in, each carrying a basket of fruit, smiling as they said, "Ms. Lopez, we broug..."
Before they could finish the word "brought," both men froze.
They stared, wide-eyed, at the man and woman on the couch, entangled in an awkward embrace. Their eyes slowly widened in shock.
Egbert, with his hand on Eileen's waist, said helplessly, "See, I told you we had visitors."
Calvert and Hobson looked at Eileen in shock.
Eileen, however, was on the verge of exploding. What did Egbert's words mean? It sounded as if she had taken advantage of other people's absence to take actions on him!
Eileen quickly got off Egbert and moved to the side!
Calvert and Hobson were even more embarrassed. They quickly left the fruit by the door and hurriedly said, "We, we won't disturb you any further. Goodbye."
With that, the door was shut with a slam, and footsteps receded hurriedly.
The door closed again.
Eileen shot Egbert another look, then moved to bring in the two baskets of fruit from the doorstep. She placed them on the coffee table and turned to Egbert, "Hand me the remote."
Egbert responded calmly, "Give me a reason."
"I don't want to watch it!" Eileen retorted.
"But I do," Egbert countered.
Unable to bear it any longer, Eileen stormed over to Egbert, propped herself on his lap, and wrapped her arms around his waist in a bid to snatch the remote away from him.
To her surprise, Egbert didn't put up a fight this time, and she easily took the remote from him.
Eileen stared at the remote in her hand, momentarily stunned.
By this time, the expression on Egbert's face had shifted from the earlier indifference to a tender warmth.
With one hand, he held her waist, while the other smoothed the tousled strands of her hair that had been disheveled during their scuffle.
Then, in a gentle voice, he said, "Go ahead, watch what you want. You have things you don't like, so in the future, don't say things I don't like, okay?"
What do you think?
