Chapter 259
Eileen wasn't pretending to sleep, she just wanted to close her eyes for a little longer.
Just as many people would open their eyes in the morning yet not jump out of bed immediately, but lay there for a few more moments, gathering their senses before sluggishly getting up. She nestled in Egbert's arms for about a minute more. Then she sat up.
Egbert seemed to sense she was awake and gently let her go.
Eileen got up from the couch and stretched, without looking at Egbert's face, she simply said, "I'm heading to bed."
With that, she scampered off up the stairs back to her room!
Egbert watched her retreating figure with a soft chuckle, tidied up the things on the coffee table, and then headed up to his own room.

Phyllis woke up to the sweet smell of pancakes wafting from downstairs.
After she got ready, she went downstairs and rushed to the kitchen where Eileen was busy with breakfast. She dashed behind Eileen and hugged her from behind.
Eileen didn't stumble or sway from the impact, she just reminded her, "Slow down."
Phyllis, hugging Eileen's waist and resting her chin on her shoulder, giggled.
Eileen flipped the pancake in the pan, then asked Phyllis, "Is anyone else up?"
Phyllis replied lazily, "When I came downstairs, Josiah's door was open. He should be up
Eileen didn't say anything more.
At that moment, Josiah happened to come down the stairs.
Eileen plated the pancakes and handed them to Phyllis, then turned and greeted, "Morning, Josiah."
Josiah grinned, "Morning."
After a bit of small talk, Eileen finished making all the pancakes. While wiping her hands, she asked, “Egbert still in bed?”
Josiah replied, "When I came down, his door was closed."
Eileen frowned and muttered, "That's odd. Egbert usually gets up earlier than I do."
Josiah and Phyllis exchanged glances.
Josiah looked up, confused, while Phyllis turned to stare at Eileen.
After setting the breakfast table, Eileen announced, "I'll go get them. You two start eating."
It wasn't until Eileen disappeared up the stairs that Phyllis swallowed hard and rasped, "Didn't they just have their first day of trial marriage yesterday?"
Josiah looked puzzled too. "So, how does she know Mr. Reed's routine... Could it be that they...?"
Phyllis quickly interjected, "Impossible!"
Then, she suddenly remembered something and hurriedly continued, "Didn't they work together on a movie before? They must've shared meals and accommodation back then."
Josiah nodded eagerly, "Ah, that makes sense."
Phyllis nodded in agreement, "Yes, yes, that must be it!"
After Eileen went upstairs, she headed to Egbert's room. Just as she raised her hand to knock, the door suddenly swung open.
Inside, Egbert was holding a cell phone, looking at her who was about to knock. He arched an eyebrow, "Were you going to hit me?" Eileen lowered her hand and said, "Breakfast's ready."
Egbert pocketed his phone, wrapped an arm around her back, and said, "Had an early call, but I'm free now."
Eileen stepped back from his embrace and went downstairs first.
In the dining room on the first floor, Phyllis and Josiah hadn't started eating, clearly waiting for everyone to gather.
A while later, Simon and Jarvis came down.
Once everyone was seated, they started breakfast.
The meal was simple, but unexpectedly delicious.
Phyllis said with appreciation, "I didn't know Eileen was such a good cook!"
Josiah agreed, "These are even better than what you can buy at most restaurants."
Simon immediately boasted, "Of course, my aunt is the best!"
Jarvis chuckled, indicating he found the food tasty.
However, Egbert put down his fork. He took a sip of his soy milk but didn't touch the pancakes again.
Seeing him only eating a little, Jarvis asked, "Aren't you eating, Mr. Reed?"
Egbert put down his cup and said casually, "I don't really eat carbs in the morning."
At his words, the table fell silent.
Everyone looked at him.
Even if it wasn't to his taste, he should at least finish it, out of respect for Ms. Lopez who had cooked it. Refusing to eat in front of her was a bit disrespectful.
Josiah, being the eldest, was about to say something to persuade Egbert to have a few more bites. But then Eileen suddenly stood up.
Josiah's face changed, and the other three were instantly startled. Phyllis quickly rushed over and grabbed Eileen's waist, pleading, "Easy, easy, Eileen. It's too early for a fight!"
Eileen looked confused and pushed Phyllis away, frowning, "Fight? What are you talking about?"
Phyllis was taken aback, she asked hesitantly, "Then, what are you doing?"
Eileen replied, "Getting him some eggs. He prefers protein, so I made him some eggs."
What do you think?
