Chapter 1615
Summer found herself crumpled on the floor, her hair in a wild mess and makeup smudged all over her face. She was shaking as she lifted her head, her eyes meeting Grady's, who sat there, legs casually crossed, looking like he owned the
place.
"Who the heck are you? And why on earth did you kidnap me?" Summer's voice was sharp, cutting through the tension in the room.
She couldn't quite place Grady, just a vague sense of having seen him before. Even in her past life, she only learned later that the Davis family was loaded, but how they made their money was a complete mystery.noveldrama
Grady wasn't shocked that Summer didn't recognize him. They'd only crossed paths a handful of times, and she'd been pretty young back then. Forgetting him was understandable, and honestly, it was better that way.
With a slight smirk, Grady uncrossed his legs from the coffee table, stood up, and slowly approached Summer. His boots were silent on the carpet, only stopping when he was right in front of her. He crouched down, his demeanor casual but his eyes piercing. "So, who told you to mess with our Miss Mira, huh?"
Summer shook her head, instinctively scooting back. "Miss Mira? I don't even..." Her words trailed off as Mirabella's name popped into her head. She'd only had a run-in with Mirabella today. So, this guy had to be from the Davis family, right? Summer's fingers clenched tightly. "Are you talking about Mirabella when you say Miss Mira?"
Grady's lips curled into a slow, deliberate smile. "Who else could it be?"
As if recalling something, Grady flicked nonexistent dust from his pants, twisting the knife further. "But just imagine, if they hadn't figured out the switch at birth, you'd have been our one and only Miss Mira."
Summer's face went pale at his words, her mind racing with thoughts she shouldn't entertain. If the truth had stayed hidden, she would have been the cherished Miss Mira of the Davis family. If she were Miss Mira, she wouldn't be in this mess, her fate controlled by others.
Thinking about it drained every bit of strength she had, leaving her sitting there, lifeless.
A henchman nearby caught sight of Summer's defeated look and silently gave Grady a thumbs up. Grady really knew how to hit where it hurt.
Grady stood and returned to the sofa. The henchman refilled his coffee cup.
After what felt like forever, Summer snapped out of her daze. Looking up at Grady, who sat smugly on the sofa, she swallowed her pride and said, "You'd better let me go. We live in a society ruled by law. If my professor realizes I'm missing, he'll definitely report you."
"Your professor? Is he a big deal?" Grady asked, his interest piqued.
"Absolutely!" Summer lifted her chin, trying to regain her confidence and dignity. "If you mess with my professor, no matter how rich the Davis family is, you'll be facing bankruptcy!"
Summer was well aware of the
power behind Joen, something even the wealthy Davis family couldn't risk crossing. In this world, money isn't everything; power and influence matter. Without those, wealth is just an empty promise.
At that moment, Summer wasn't even a little bit scared. She knew if she disappeared, her professor would pull every string to find her.
