She didn't really get the whole Merrywoods power thing, but she knew Joen. He was a big shot researcher, a scientist with international acclaim. The thought of someone so respected speaking with that kind of deference...

Not only did he use that tone, but he also quickly distanced himself from her, his student, as if acknowledging her could bring trouble. Summer had thought having Professor Joen in her corner would make the Davis family back off. Never in her wildest dreams did she think it'd be her professor backing off when faced with the Davis family.

Summer's mind was buzzing, and she clenched her hands tightly on the carpet. After a moment, she suddenly raised her head and quickly addressed the direction where Grady stood. "Professor, are you planning to abandon your research?"

Grady still held the phone, and Joen hesitated for a moment on the other end when he heard Summer's words. The Davis family wasn't a group to mess with, but if they really wanted to protect someone, it wasn't out of the question.

Just then, Summer gritted her teeth and added, "Professor, don't forget, today's mess started because of someone!"

Joen furrowed his brow, pondering the meaning behind Summer's words. After a brief pause, his eyes widened as if he'd figured something out. The Davis family, with that last name... Right, the special person Summer had mentioned also had that last name.

He wasn't sure what connection that girl had with the Davis family. Joen rubbed his temples, quickly weighing the situation in his mind, and then said, "don't know what you're trying to say here. The trouble you've caused is your own, and I can't help you."

With that, Joen hung up. He wasn't going to be threatened by anyone, not even Summer or the Davis family. There was nothing they could do to him. So after hanging up, Joen contacted the head of the lab.

Back on Summer's end, she hadn't expected Joen to deny everything, and despair spread across her face. "Looks like your professor has given up on you," Grady remarked with a faint smile.

Summer's face turned even paler. Grady had no intention of wasting more words and simply waved to Grady beside him. "Take her away."

Grady nodded, took a couple of steps forward, and reached to grab Summer. Seeing this, Summer shrank back, screaming, "What do you want to do? You know this is illegal, right?"

Grady looked down at Summer, as if she were a fool. Ah, she wasn't even a tenth of what their Miss Mira was. Grady shook his head, ignoring Summer's resistance, and easily lifted her.
