Chapter 1618
A mysterious imposter had slipped into someone else's life, soaking up the love and admiration meant for another. How could she possibly deserve it?
"Do you really think she's your Miss Mira?" Summer tossed her head back with a laugh, tossing caution to the wind. "A person who's so different from before-are you all blind?"
If some folks wanted to make her life difficult, she wasn't going to let them have it easy either.
Grady watched Summer with a calm, steady gaze. Summer, still grinning, kept a close eye on Grady's blank expression. Seeing she couldn't read him, she continued, "Even though it sounds crazy, I can assure you, this so-called Miss Mira is not the real Mirabella. She_"
Before she could finish, Shay knocked her out cold with a swift punch.
"Definitely nuts," Shay sneered, shaking his head. "Talking about hidden truths— clearly delusional."
Shay glanced up at Grady, noticing his silence. "Grady, you're not going to let this woman's words get to you, right? She's just trying to stir up trouble."
Grady threw Shay a glance, "Are you saying you're the only one with any sense?" "Nope, I'm the one without any sense," Shay shot back immediately.
Grady turned away, uninterested in continuing the conversation.
Shay cleared his throat, lifting the unconscious Summer over his shoulder, "I'll get going then."
Grady gave a slight nod, closing his eyes and leaning back into the sofa.
After Shay left, it took a while for Grady to open his eyes again. He
absentmindedly fiddled with the wooden bracelet on his wrist, his thoughts drifting far away, lost in contemplation.
It wasn't until his phone buzzed in his pocket that he snapped back to reality.
"Keir," Grady sat up straight, his voice turning respectful.
"I heard there was trouble with that kid at school? What happened?" Jim's voice was laced with concern.
Grady didn't hold back, recounting the day's events and his suspicions.
Jim, who didn't have much affection for Summer, his former niece, spoke icily, "So, those experimenters are after Mira again?"noveldrama
Grady nodded, "Yes."
"Why are they targeting that kid?" Jim asked.
"They're likely after her for their experiments," Grady said, having gleaned some info from Summer.
Jim took a deep breath, as if holding something back, "Get more people to watch over her these next few days. If it comes to it, consider sending her back home early.
Grady paused, recalling what Atlas had mentioned about Miss Mira, and added, Maybe Miss Mira can look after herself. Didn't you meet her last time, Keir? Surely you noticed she's not like other girls."
Keir, feeling a bit annoyed, kept quiet: "..."
Jim pressed his fingers to his
teledetermined not to lose face,
and huffed, "Of course, she's my niece-she's not just anyon
Grady's lips twitched; was Keir just blindly boasting?
"Alright, enough of this, I'm hanging up."
Jim ended the call, feeling a bit frustrated. His own niece, and yet it seemed like
an outsider saw her more often than he did!
** Meanwhile, back at the hotel. **
Mirabella had been holed up in her room since returning from the police station,
not stepping out even once.
What do you think?
