Chapter 738
There was a hint of surprise that ran through Matthew's blood-crazed eyes when he heard Natalie's excuse. It was ridiculous, per se.
She was the female assassin who had tried to kill him by dropping a few flower pots on his head from the balcony. Yet, she wanted to shamelessly use her identity as a woman to avoid repercussions now that the tables had turned.
Matthew couldn't bear it anymore and lashed out angrily, "Who the fuck cares if you're a woman? Men and women-they're all the same in my eyes!"
As he spoke, Matthew walked toward Natalie, stepping on the corpses strewn across the ground.
Natalie was so frightened that she trembled as she said, "I'm just a pitiful soul who got swept up in their schemes and became an assassin. Please, let me go. I know what I did wrong."
Then, Matthew stopped before her and asked, "Do you think you're a reasonable person?"
Natalie then nodded. "I am, really. I'm usually pretty rational, and I only ended up as an assassin because I got deluded by them! I wasn't thinking straight back then. Please, just let me go."
Matthew said coldly, "Since that's the case, It's only reasonable if I killed you after you tried to kill me! Stop begging me for mercy if you're as reasonable as you say!"
Upon hearing that, Natalie yelled out anxiously, "I... But I'm a woman! Please consider..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Natalie was hit on the head by a hammer. There was a loud bang that sounded before she collapsed to the ground.
Just then, Farrell let out a horrified shriek. He had witnessed a bloodbath in this tiny room, and all across the floor were corpses dyeing the floor red.
Farrell felt his legs going weak as he slumped onto the ground-it felt like hell. Matthew turned and made his way toward Farrell, saying, "It's your turn now!" Farrell was so frightened that his voice shook as he spoke. "I'm already 72 years old, and I've got nieces and nephews too. Please just spare me—I don't wanna die!
"I'm telling you, I've never betrayed a single customer, but I'm making an exception for you. It's the Fuller family from Mistvale City who wants you dead. They're the ones who hired us, so you should be taking revenge on them, not us!"
But Matthew continued to walk up to Farrell. "I don't care how old you are, nor how many people you have in your family, and even less of the ones who hired you. I'll personally send you to hell today!"
Seeing Matthew ignore his pleas, Farrell steeled his heart and fished out his phone before showing Matthew its screen. "I'm on a video call with the owner of The Misfortune's Veil. He's got something to tell you."
On the phone screen was a man wearing a Joker's mask, which hid all of his facial features, including his hair, except for his eyes. Those eyes were sharp and cutting, and as Matthew went closer to the screen, the man asked, "Are you Matthew?"
Matthew halted in his tracks and looked at the masked man. "Are you the owner of The Misfortune's Veil?"
The masked man nodded. "That's right-I'm the owner of The Misfortune's Veil. Let Mr. Kuhn go, and I'll spare your life. But if you hurt him even a little, you'll immediately be listed as the enemy of The Misfortune's Veil. It's up to you..."
Before he could finish speaking, the hammer landed right on Farrell's head, easily cracking his skull.
The phone fell out of Farrell's hands, but Matthew kicked it up with his feet. It then quickly bounced upward, and Matthew aimed the camera at Farrell's corpse once he caught hold of the phone.noveldrama
At the sight of Farrell's dead body, the masked man stiffened up. His eyes revealed a trace of anguish as he stared at Farrell's body for a very long time, as if time had stopped.
All of a sudden, he roared out in rage, "You... You shouldn't have killed him, Matthew! Do... Do you even know who he is?"
Matthew then flipped the camera over to him and replied, "I don't care. I'd kill him all the same, even if he was your father."
Right after he said that, Matthew hung up.
At the topmost floor of a building, the masked man froze after the call ended. Then, he flung the mask off his face, revealing his face.
The man looked pretty strange-he had a few scars on his face, and one of them even deformed his mouth, making his lips tilted to the right. However, his facial features looked perfectly intact from his nose up.
Still, his face contorted when he gritted his teeth, and it made him look even scarier than before. This man was known as the owner of The Misfortune's Veil, Nathan Donaldson.
The Misfortune's Veil had a total of three groups, and now that two of the groups had been destroyed, Nathan grew furious. All his hard work training those assassins had gone to waste.
Especially Farrell-he was the first to join The Misfortune's Veil after Nathan established it. But Farrell wasn't merely a member of The Misfortune's Veil, because he was also Nathan's savior.
What do you think?
