Chapter 131
Jason glanced at the car Evelyn had just gotten into.
If he was not mistaken, Thomas' gaze was unusually warm and eager. It was as if
he had found his kindred spirit. It looked like nothing close to mere politenoveldrama
friendliness.
A flicker of suspicion crossed his mind. Was he just overthinking it?
Not far away, Brandon had seen the whole scene unfold.
From Evelyn opening Lucas' car door to the arrival of Tiffany, he saw everything that transpired with his own eyes.
He could not help but chuckle. How did he always manage to catch these juicy moments?
It was no wonder Evelyn had looked at Lucas like that just now. She was still harboring indecent thoughts toward him. She wanted to get into the same car as him, only to be put in her place by his rightful girlfriend.
"What's so funny?" The deep voice of a man was heard from the other end of his phone.
Brandon flicked his cigarette ash away and said, "Just saw some entertaining drama. Sometimes, too much charm can be a problem. There are all sorts of tricks a woman can pull to reel in a man."
The voice replied calmly, "Since when were you so interested in gossip?"
Brandon choked a little. "You're roasting me again. I'm just watching the show." He stubbed out his cigarette before continuing, "Harry Miller, when are you coming back? Will you be here for Easter?"
"It depends," came the unhurried reply.
Brandon clicked his tongue. "Dr. Miller, instead of wasting your talent overseas, why not come back and help the patients in our country?"
"Fair point."
Brandon cursed at him playfully before hanging up and getting into his car.
...
It was already past 4.00 pm after the group visited all the exhibits.
Evelyn had a long discussion with Thomas about Flying Seal Group's year-end projects. "This project is going to fill the gap in our country's innovation.
"Evelyn, you truly never act unless it's something big. Once this project is confirmed, Flying Seal Group's public listing won't be far off." Thomas was moved to tears.
Sebastian agreed with him.
If Evelyn had not gotten married a few years ago and joined them instead, Flying Seal Group would probably already be well-known throughout the world. Even if she were not a part of Flying Seal Group, she would be a key figure in aerospace engineering under Graham's guidance.
Fortunately, Evelyn was still young. There was still time for everything.
Evelyn just flashed a faint smile in response. She would not hold any expectations for the future. As long as she did things at a steady pace, the result would speak for itself.
The research team to be put under Graham was still in discussion. Evelyn did not pay much attention to it. Flying Seal Group's project would be launching soon, so there was a lot to be done.
Later that afternoon, she received a call from Leonard's attending physician, Nick Johnson.
She had to make a trip to the hospital.
Nick did not sugarcoat things and explained, "Mr. Reed's condition is not looking good. There are signs of metastasis. Right now, we don't have a suitable liver donor. If we continue with conservative treatments, he could only live for two more years."
Evelyn's heart dropped. "Is there no other way?" she asked, her lips pale.
Nick hesitated before answering, "There is one... but..."
"But what?" Evelyn's eyes lit with a flicker of hope.
"An oncology expert is returning from abroad after Easter. If we can arrange a joint consultation with him, it might open up new ways of treatment. However, the exact time is uncertain. You could wait and see if he's willing."
Evelyn understood what Nick meant.
A joint consultation with multiple experts would obviously be ideal. But right now, time was the one thing she could not waste.
Not only was Leonard a ticking bomb, but she could also fall at any given second.
Walking out of the consultation room, Evelyn wandered through the lobby, her thoughts crashing through like waves.
Her mind ran at full speed, trying to figure out how to solve the current problem. Consequently, she did not take notice of her surroundings at all.
Even when she brushed past someone, she did not seem to realize it.
But the other person stopped in their tracks, turned around, and stared at her retreating figure.
What do you think?
