The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 132

Upon reaching the entrance, Evelyn sat on the stone steps to rest for a moment.

Nick had said that the expert's date of return was uncertain. Moreover, it would not be easy to get an appointment if they were truly that renowned in the field. If she had some way of contacting them directly, she could maybe fight for more time.

"Ms. Reed?"

Evelyn looked up.

Jason approached, studying her expression as he drew near. She still looked pale. It reminded him of the last time he brought her to the hospital.

"Feeling unwell again?" he asked, his lips pressed together.

Evelyn was momentarily dazed. "No," she replied, shaking her head. Realizing how terse she sounded, she added cooly, "What brings you here?" Jason lifted the bag in his hand, "I came to pick up Fiona's asthma medication."

Evelyn suddenly remembered that Fiona had asthma. Her health had never been great, but Jason had always been a responsible brother. He was attentive to her every need.

Evelyn was just acquainted with him, and their past had not been particularly friendly either, which left little to chat about. There was a hint of awkwardness in the air.

Jason noticed this too. He broke the silence first. "Then, what are you here for?"

"I talked to my uncle's attending physician about his treatment options," Evelyn replied politely.

When Jason first saw her today, he had sensed something was on her mind. After a moment of consideration, he asked, "Did you run into trouble? Do you... need my help?"

Evelyn looked at him slowly, suspicion flickering in her eyes. Given how he used to dislike her, she was surprised he would offer to help. "It's nothing. I'm just trying to find a specialist for my uncle."

"What's the illness?"

"Malignant tumor," Evelyn answered.

She closed her eyes slowly, and her sense of helplessness crept in. With the way things were, she could not afford to collapse.

Jason was at a loss for how to comfort her. He soon fell into deep thought.

Suddenly, he looked at her and said, "I know a renowned doctor. If you don't mind, I can share his contact info with you."

Evelyn stared at him, slightly stunned. Her eyes showed confusion and doubt.

Jason clearly saw the doubt she had. He pressed his lips together and pulled out his phone. After a few taps, Evelyn's phone buzzed.

"He's a friend of mine who studied abroad for years and is well-versed in his field. Even if he's not the exact match, he has access to top-tier medical resources."

Evelyn was genuinely taken aback as Jason had sent her a phone number.

"Why are you helping me?" she asked instinctively.

He used to dislike and always looked down on her, not with Mason's level of hostility, but with a cold indifference nonetheless. He had always chosen to ignore her.

Her question left Jason stunned. His gaze flickered, and he said, "Just lending a hand."

Evelyn could not figure out his motives, but she had to admit that he gave her a lead. Someone like Jason would not have weak connections.

She exhaled slowly, then thanked him sincerely. "Thank you."

"It's no trouble at all." He could tell she was still distant, but he did not blame her. After all, he had been pretty awful toward her in the past.

"Where are you heading to? I'll give you a ride." Jason glanced at his watch and offered politely.

"It's fine. There's no need to trouble you."

Jason looked straight at her and said seriously, "You're probably heading back to your office. I'm headed that way too. It's no trouble."

Evelyn hesitated. She had taken a cab here as Justine drove her car off for maintenance. Calling another one now would probably take a while.

Besides, Jason had just helped her, so refusing him would seem a little rude.

After some thought, she nodded. "Thank you."

Only then did Jason give a small smile.

The ride took about 20 minutes.noveldrama

Evelyn did not sleep well last night due to the pain she felt. As a result, she became sleepy as soon as she got into the car. She leaned against the window and rested.

She did not try to make conversation.

Jason glanced at her, then adjusted the air conditioning for her comfort.

When they arrived at the office, Evelyn woke up just in time. Jason had already gotten out to open her door.

Evelyn did not find it strange. It was the norm for upperclassmen like him who were taught proper etiquette.

"Thanks," she said, stepping out with her purse in hand.

Perhaps it was due to her condition, but a sharp pain stabbed at her lower abdomen just as her foot touched the ground.

Her face went white, and her legs gave out beneath her. Jason reacted instantly and caught her on instinct.

Through her cashmere coat, he could still feel the warmth of her slim waist. For a moment, his body stiffened.

As he lowered his head to ask if she was alright, hurried footsteps were heard from behind, followed by a cold and furious voice.

"What are you doing?"

Jason turned around, not expecting to take a hard punch square in the jaw, sending him back several steps.
